Summer League Notes And Discussion

I'd be surprised if Hood starts

I will not be surprised if Bradley wins the backup center position. He isn't flashy but he understands his role. Very good rebounder and has good hands. He is an old school type of player. The lineup you mentioned is a solid second team, with defense and scoring. I can't wait to see more from this team.

I would be ok with JJ being our backup PF and the Jazz can look for his replacement next year.

Again if this team can stay healthy. I think they are better than last year.

My takeaways from game 1:

Mitchell has above average NBA quickness and speed. His spot up jumper has beautiful form and it goes in. Defensively I need to see him again full size shooting guards but signs look promising. His handle was better than I expected.

Bradley had better defensively mobility than I expected. He was rotating over to and cutting off the paths to the rim. He also rebounded in crowd. He still has a long ways to go strength wise and offensively. Overall I was encouraged that he will eventually be a rotation player.

Exum shot the ball better and had better form and balance. His handle is still too loose. Maybe he is destined to be a shooting guard.

Bolomboy didn't do much of anything. He struggled to hold position on the boards. The one really positive was he got switched on Murray and shut him down. We needed to see some more ball skills from Bolomboy.

Is there a pic of Rubio, Neto and Gobert sitting watching the summer league game together? Mitchell and Dante looked fire.

I didn't know we had Tokoto on our summer league roster. I like his game. He's not a chucker and plays efficient. Solid passer and athletic freak. If he can keep improving he's going to stick on an NBA roster somewhere.

Exum is going to shoot a decent percentage from 3 this year. His shot looks a lot more smooth. It looks like changing his form took a little time to get down but it will pay off. You wont be able to leave him open from three. We already know he can get by just about anyone with his first step. If guys are having to rush out to guard him at the three that will open things up for him a lot.

Of the bench if he can keep hitting open threes, blow by a guys to get to the rim and play awesome defense he will be awesome in the backup PG spot.

Last year briefly Exum and Burks had some good moments pushing it in transition and running a bit when they played together. I am excited to see if Exum and Mitchell can get some chemistry off the bench next season and do some great things. They will be a good combo and both can play good defense and run the point just enough to be interchangeable on offense and defense. Exum, Mitchell and Inlges can switch almost every time on defense which will be incredible. If Hood plays with them off the bench that will be fun too.

Bradley gave me a lot of hope for filling an immediate need. He plays physical, he rebounds, he blocks out, plays defense and has soft hands. He might be able to step into that backup center spot right away or at the least by next year. I want to see him shoot more jump shots in game the rest of summer league.

Very confident that we now have a very good PG trio in Rubio, Exum and Mitchell. And I agree, Exum may be better suited for a combo guard role. Bradley is raw, but might be exactly what we need as a backup to Rudy.

At this point, if Utah could get Gallinari or even Crowder as Hayward's replacement, that would be the best we could hope for. Lindsey has been working hard. He certainly has a Plan B in the works.

Ummmm. After this whole Hayward decision debacle, Summer League game against the Celtics tomorrow is going to be friggin NASTY. $8 a ticket. Hell yeah. That's gonna be some entertainment.

Ainge likely needs a couple of thugs from the campus police force to act as bodyguards. My money says he attends. That ******* likes to gloat. He seriously needs someone to smack that silly-*** grin off his face.

Offensively, I see Rubio as 100% 1, Mitchell as 90% 2 and Dante as TBD. If he improves his handle, would be awesome to see Dante mostly at the 1.

Defensively, they have a lot of latitude, with any of the 3 guarding 1 or 2 (although Rubio may not match up well against bigger 2s)
