I get that's the perception on the right in this country but I don't think it's all that accurate. Take a look at the ACA for example, it's basically the crowning achievement of the Obama administration which finds its roots in an old Heritage Foundation idea, and is incredibly similar to the program Mitt Romney signed into law when he was governor of Massachusetts.

I do believe the Democratic party is becoming more left wing, but that that shift is bringing it more in line with mainstream public opinion.

Take a look at public support for things like a higher minimum wage, single payer health care as well as drug policy reform.

Yeah ... He took a program from the right to try to help bring them in board. Try to bridge the gap.

And instead, he was **** in for it.

Who really is too far in one direction or the other?

Then right on red. Take that stand. I find you insightful and informed. I like that. It’s a reason I read your posts closely.

But for me there are things the Ds are pushing for and supporting that I cannot.

My stance is the support of the fall of the Rs and Ds.

Could you clarify? What things?

That’s something I’ve thought about. If Ford was lying, wouldn’t she tell a more detailed story to fill in gaps to make herself seem more believable, and if she was lying why would she ask or want an fbi investigation, because at first she refused to answer questions without first having an investigation.

Wondering what everyone thinks about that?

Also, why include a second boy in the room?

It is hard for me to understand this sort of thinking. The Dems are already way too far left. What we need is to come to agreement in the middle, not to move farther to either extreme.

The people pushing for universal health care are leftish (still not far left), but the mainstream Democratic party is centrist (pro-business, pro-Wall Street, etc.).

As I have said, I believe her, but if I was going to make up a story, why not include the guys best friend that is know for being a crazy party animal with drinking problems? It would make the story more credible. As far as the request for an investigation, we don't know if that came from her or her counsel. It would provide good optics to appear that she telling the truth, especially if you knew an investigation was not likely anyway, and worse case would be inconclusive.

A good lawyer knows how to properly strategize.

A little too much hindsight there. If he comes out strong with a different story about that night (she was drunk and threw herself at them), her credibility is toasted and Kavanaugh keeps his hands clean.

I think I could convince even most Republicans on single payer health care if I could discuss the issues. I am all for a free market, but right now we have free market health care system in a world wirh government controlled health care that has limits on pricing. The result is the US uses something like 15% of the the world's health care but accounts for over 70% of providers profits. Our free market health care is inefficient and subsidizes health care for the rest of the world.

Fair enough, but if you see what he says in his book I don't think he is going to be too credible no matter what. Also, if it didn't happen, it is a safe bet that he had no idea if it happened or not due to his excessive drinking, it would be plausible to think he would respond exactly as he did.

I do think that many here disengenuiously claim to be moderates/centrists.

Clues your not a centrist

Most of the people you vote for are of the same party

The media you consume has a preferred party
example Hannity or Maher

You find yourself agreeing/disagreeing most often with same people
example if you have had a number of boisterous arguments with @Thriller but few or none with @Joe Bagadonuts.

Here's the thing you don't get to automatically claim the high ground by being a moderate anyway. Would you have been a moderate on slavery?

It's OK to be a radical. It's OK to proselytize. Just don't be surprised when you are challenged for it and don't pretend that that's not what you're doing.

I would never claim to be a centrist. I am an Anarchist in the classical not so Ayn Rand sense(though I do agree with her at times). I do have the capacity to know when I am wrong (I won't admit it because I need to hear your best argument so as to improve my understanding ) and am willing to change my views. I am not a centrist. I am not a moderate. <different things sometimes

I expect that other people who aren't don't claim to be either. It is incredibly insincere

Guide(my observations more or less I don't care if it pisses you off)

@Joe Bagadonuts is far right Republican
@Stoked is a Republican
@colton is a moderate Republican (straight up Republican 3 years ago)
@Bulletproof is a moderate Democrat
@One Brow is a Democrat
@Thriller is a far left Democrat
