Sushi!

I kinda liked it right up front, don't know why. I have a harder time with salmon roe.

Don't you guys watch Jazz games? They have a commercial on practically every broadcast.

Also, while we're shouting out to local Sushi places, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Ichiban yet.

Ichiban isn't my favorite. Sushi Yah is tops, but other than that I like Happy Sumo, Tsunami is pretty good, Takashi always has fresh fish and interesting additions (like black sea bass and other exotic fish) but they are soooo over-priced. Flying Sumo in Park City is pretty good too.

I agree with Viny...the closer to the coast you get the better the sushi. San Fran has some great sushi spots. So does South Beach. Only issue then is price.

I will still put some of the all you can eat places here in Reno up against anything in SLC and even many in Cali or Florida. They just do it right here.

Best sushi Ive ever had was in SF. The closer to the ocean the better it is.

Log, I had no idea you lived in Reno. I love Reno.

Reminds me of an article I once read...

https://www.esquire.com/features/esquire-100/reno1007

Great article viny and the guy nailed it with this paragraph:

I want to say this clearly: You cannot deconstruct Reno. It's ruddy and rock hard, self-evident and openhearted. Reno is of a whole. It is a city, not an event. It is clean, safe, small, open, easy to get around in, cheap, seedy in the right ways, elegant in its own small measures. The airport? Intensely easy. Crowds? None that you can't handle. Hotels? None over a hundred dollars. There are mountains -- real ones -- lush, snowcapped, visually magnetic, utterly proximate. In Vegas, the mountains are dead hills in the distance. You know where you are when you're in Reno. You are in the new Vegas.

Great town to live in. Seriously is a big little city. Everything a big city has to offer and a small-town feel. Low crime rates, great activities in the city and within 50 miles. Can't say enough about Tahoe, and we are 30 minutes from there. I worked for amazon.com here a while back for about 5 years and they held their summer company picnics at Tahoe...rented a private beach.

Yeah we pretty much love it here.

If you are every coming through let me know, we can get some sushi.

Those are just the ones we put on display to keep the riff-raff out of the town. Get out of downtown, it gets much better. =)

Uni is where it's at. King of nigiri.

When I was in Japan, we were at this rich ladies house and she ordered in some way pricey sushi for the 4 of us missionaries. I ate everything I could, but after the first piece of uni, I just couldn't bring myself to down the second. When she wasn't looking I threw it on my buddies plate and he finished it off for me. Ever since then, I just can't do the uni.
LogGrad, have you ever had it fresh? As in you are still standing in the ocean where you picked it up when you eat it?

Closest to fresh like that was from a tank in a sushi place in Atlanta. They were brought in alive and you could see them kinda crawling around and the chef would take one out and prepare it to order, then they served a raw scallop kind of "salad" with some mayo and other stuff inside the shell. That was the best I ever had. I know it is an acquired taste but for whatever reason I really like it.

Talking about great sushi in Utahr is like talking about the best waves at Lake Havasu.
