Tank for Wiggins/Parker

Over the past few years of being on this board, what I've noticed is that most of the people here strive for a team that wins a championship through teamwork and multiple good, not great players (04 pistons). Well I for one am sick of it! This is a league driven by superstars, it's a 5v5 game where one dominant player can mean everything (see James, LeBron.) I love the five as much as the rest of you guys and am super stoked about Burkes being on the team, but homer glasses aside, even in 4-5 years this team will be 1 missing piece away from a championship. That missing piece in my opinion is a superstar wing who can create shots for himself and carry a team to victory.

Yeah I know, tanking is for losers, we don't want the youngins to have a losers mentality etc. etc. etc.

But to that, I say this, when you think of the spurs do you think of a tanking team with a losers mentality? or do you see a dynasty? these spurs tanked for Tim Duncan 16 years ago and it has been paying off ever since!

So I say we toss this season, just this once, for a chance at our superstar wing and let the Utah Jazz dynasty begin!

Imagine, 4-5 years from now....
PG: Burke
SG: Burk
SF: Wiggins
PF: Kanter
C: Favors

6th: Hayward

Your 2017-18 NBA Champions

#1 over/under on how many of these threads we see this year??
#2 who is "Burk?"
#3 just bustin ur balls.. keep it comin mate.

I think the C5 could get us back to the Conference Finals in a few years, but man...a championship? That would be tough.

I'm all on board for tanking for Wiggins/Jabari. Obviously. It'll just be so hard to do. There will be so much "competition" for the worst record, and even after that you have to hope the Ping Pong Ball Gods like you that day.

One more thing.... this is my realm.. I dont know the cba.. don't know nba rosters like the rest of you.. but I know scouting.

Other than anthony davis, there hasn't been a prospect come out like jabari and wiggins... in a long time.

Irving.. sure
Wall.. sure

But these two are THAT good to be singled out over a decade.

Yeah, it really does look like it'll be like 2003 at the top of the draft.

Not only that, there is nothing like a "Pistons model" out there. Its just a lame excuse for GMs who havent been successfully able to land a star for their team. The Pistons were a one-off team with balanced offense but superlative defense(they did have a defensive superstar, a multiple NBA defensive player of the year) who were still a Karl Malone injury away from not winning it all(after pulling off a mid-season blockbuster for Rasheed Wallace). So that's that. If you noticed no team since then has won on a "model" like that or have tried emulating the Pistons.

I do not appreciate that you mention Irving and Wall whilst leaving Rose, Durant and Harden out ;)

But 3 predictions on threads surfacing throughout the next year.

1) We will have at least 4 more threads until the regular season starts about the benefit of tanking.

2) 2 months into the season 3 more threads appear complaining the Jazz don't tank hard enough. One of these threads will blame Ty Corbin for not tanking hard enough.

3) There will be more than one thread after next year's summer league expressing regret for the Jazz not tanking hard enough in order to grab a certain player and how lucky the author would be to watch multiple seasons of tanking and player development in order to have a superstar for 10 more seasons after that. One of these thread creators will be a user who advocated against tanking this summer. When called out about the fact he'll blame either Ty Corbin or a sunstroke.

Historically, it takes around 20-21 wins to finish with one of the two worst records. And then you just have to hope no one leapfrogs you in the lottery. And that has happened more often than not (i.e. a team outside of the top-2 getting one of those picks). About the only chance the Jazz have at Wiggins or Parker is to a) only fill the rest of the roster with summer league players or low-level FA's, and b) have a couple of the starters go down with injuries that cause them to miss a lot of games.

Hayward starts over Burks, but yeah that line up looks really good.

Burke
Hayward
Wiggins
Kanter
Favors

Bench: JYD, Gobert, Burks, a grizzled vet

That has the potential to compete for a title if at least two stars bust out of that group.
Wiggins and one of those guys has to be an allstar.

or c) get some help from the lottery balls after finishing from 3-7, certainly not unprecedented

He said Burkes - obviously referring to the Burke/Burks combo. Can't believe you missed that.

IMO, Wiggins will most likely go #1 overall followed by Parker. Both are franchise studs, I see a lot of Durant in Wiggins' game and Parker reminds me a James Harden type player. If the Jazz can acquire either one of these players we'll be well on our way. I prefer, Wiggins. The kid looks like he has jet engines attached to his shoes.

These comparisons are pretty bad, no offense. Andrew Wiggins is like a better version of Scottie Pippen, which is scary to think about. And Jabari Parker is like a Carmelo Anthony/Grant Hill hybrid because he can do everything offensively.

Wiggins can't shoot very well at this point in his career but is much more athletic than Durant. Parker is about 4" inches taller and 20 pounds heavier than James Harden.

I pray we tank for Parker. The first Mormon superstar in the league should play for Utah.

but really, everybody bitches and moans about not winning championships, landing a top 5 pick in this years draft to go along with our 5 studs right now is the best chance the jazz will get in probably a LONG time.

The teams I see at the bottom of the league this year are in no particular order

1. magic
2. suns
3. celtics
4. sixers
5. raps
6. lolcats - al jeff should give em a couple wins
7. wizards - cant really tank if they plan on keeping john wall
8. cavs - ditto irving
9- blazers - hopefully lillard and aldridge keep them afloat
10 -jazz

but yeah, depending on how everybody else does obviously, we could easily be shooting at spots 3-7 in the lottery which puts us in really good position i think

I can't wait for the Jazz to win 45+ games next season, pissing off all the tank-turds.
