Targeted Shooting of Democratic Legislators

Now that ICE is wearing masks (suddenly the right supports mask wearing?) I wonder how many problems are going to be created by people now impersonating ICE? Like this is what becomes confusing when law enforcement gets to act outside of what is considered professionalism. What’s stopping any yahoo from impersonating ICE, committing a crime, harming someone, or intimidating someone now that it has become standard practice for these guys to wear masks, act like thugs, disappear people, and not be held accountable for anything?

As far as these political assassinations go, I’m waiting to hear more about them before passing judgement. I will say, if this was yet another trumper killing Democrats, it wouldn’t surprise me. Trump attracts these vermin. And when they’re caught, he pardons them. This just fits a pattern where his supporters do something heinous, like attempt to kidnap a governor or attempt to overthrow the government. And the media keeps memory holing these guys because Trump and republicans make good ratings as long as they’re left free and unaccountable to continue to spread their bile and violence. Fascism is amazing for clicks!

I would like to add that I’m getting awfully tired at the right whining about freedom of speech for Nazis and confederates and the media merely regurgitating this ridiculous claim while Nazis and confederates disappear people, fetishize about a pure white america, and they actually permanently silence the speech of those they deem unworthy of life. Want to talk about freedom of speech? Let’s talk about Gabby Gifford. Let’s talk about all these people ICE are disappearing. Let’s talk about those people deported off to el Salvadoran gulags. Let’s talk about librarians, teachers, and historians who have been intimidated, fired, or killed because they insisted people learn history. Let’s talk about the police who were killed by Jan 6 Insurrectionists. Let’s talk about the children dying from easily preventable diseases because the right either spread disinformation about vaccines or cut their funding for USAID. Let’s talk about these two lawmakers.

One side continuously escalates but is never held to account.

I’m reading that he had a hit list of 70 Democratic politicians and abortion doctors he wanted to kill. Wonder where he's getting such vitriol from to become so angry? Wonder who he voted for? Where are our very principled pro life conservatives on this site to denounce this monster? Shouldn’t they be up in arms over this? What has happened to tolerance and free speech and stuff? Has Donald addressed this today or was he too busy sitting at his birthday parade that no one attended?

Former military, anti abortion, christian nationalist, trump supporter.
Not surprised in the least
Honestly, reminds me of this guy, Caesar Sayoc. He too had a hit list. He sent pipe bombs to a bunch of Democratic leaders and media personalities. They just failed. I’m surprised donald hasn’t pardoned him yet like he did the Jan 6 losers.

I saw the news of the shooting just as I was leaving for a rally yesterday. My first thought was “Democrat lawmakers, and it’s “No Kings Day”, gotta be someone in MAGA”. But I was concerned it might not be, at a worst time imaginable, on the day of thousands of rallies against Trump. Nothing good about what happened, huge manhunt ongoing, but I confess, I am relieved that it was a Trump supporter. The most successful mass movements in history understood the importance of non violence. And so must this movement.

Sounds like he was very pro-life, and may have targeted pro-choice individuals.

Nothing like a "pro-life" murderer.

Considered by friends and neighbours to be a straight shooter?
I also read that he had strong anti LGBT views. I bet if you wanted to dig far enough (it wouldn’t be hard) you’d find he’d have interesting views on race mixing, women’s roles, and immigration. Anyone want to bet he likely had paranoid views on “globalist elites” who were controlling everything? There’s a pretty clear pattern emerging from these radicalized right wing assassins and mass shooters. Which is why right wing media is trying so hard to flood the zone with **** so they can Seth Rich this assassination.

Just look at what fellow Utah Mormon and senator Mike Lee is doing:

You just don’t see this on the left. You don’t see a concerted propaganda apparatus and senators doing this type of disinformation.

This deserves a second look. It was attacked at the time because the right didn’t find these facts to be convenient. But so much of our current situation is based on this problem and this problem alone; the radicalization of the American right. I saw it first hand here in Utah when Obama was first elected. Suddenly parents didn’t want their children to watch the president’s address to school children. Suddenly I noticed an increase in racist comments and jokes. Suddenly people wanted to see the birth certificate of the president, something never before requested. Wonder why? Suddenly the tea party movement came About.

One of the foremost experts on domestic terrorism, Daryl Johnson began his career as a civilian in the U.S. Army and has held several government positions, most recently as a senior analyst at the Department of Homeland Security. In 2009, he wrote an internal Homeland Security report warning that right-wing extremism was on the rise in the US. When the report leaked, the political backlash was immediate and the report was retracted. In 2012, he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on hate crimes and the threat of domestic extremism. He is now the owner of DT Analytics, a private consulting firm for law enforcement, academia, and other organizations, and the author of Hateland: A Long, Hard Look at America’s Extremist Heart (Prometheus Books, 2019) and Right-Wing Resurgence: How a Domestic Terrorism Threat Is Being Ignored (Rowman & Littlefield, 2012).
