Taxes suck.

Something is wrong when your monthly tax cost is your highest monthly bill. So stupid.

Does the government not realize the stimulation to economy if that money could be spent or invested?

They do not. You should write them a letter explaining your theory ASAP.

That is because it pays for roads, schools, infrastructure, the military, health care subsidies, help for the destitute and homeless, agriculture, scientific research...

Taxes are a good thing and I am glad to pay them. I may have a problem with some of the things they spend them, I think they are very wasteful, but I am ok with the amount of taxes I pay.

I don't want to pay for that! I don't use any of that!

Are you really ok with it?

In montana our income tax is ~ 11%. Add in property, federal, state, etc and my dad is paying ~45-50% in taxes. Seems rather excessive to me. Although I will add that it does cause him to spend more on things that are deductible.

Exactly what taxes are you talking about?

I would say that the ones that really piss me off are all the taxes and fees on utilities

I think our cell phone bill is about 25% taxes and fees

I may have to post this in the Pet Peeves topic too!

Coincidental post? Just read yesterday US Fed tax revenue at all time high, yet we still added half a trillion to deficit.

I'm OK with paying taxes, and living in Germany, the federal taxes are higher than in US... and add VAT 19% to that, and higher still.
But I'm not OK with US Fed Gov thinking they can control and fund everything, at an amazingly inefficient and bloated rate.
Not only sucking up needed capital, but constantly crippling the 'invisible hand', benefiting the few in office as opposed to the populous...

Farmers should realize the benefit of taxes. Y'all rival the military industrial complex in benefit from taxes. Everything from co-oping the environmental movement to get ethanol going (lol that's such a funny *** ironic joke) to food stamps (more irony) to everything else you can explain more than I can.

Farmers are rich as **** these days. There's a reason: Government.

I did a back of the envelope calculation yesterday and figured my annual taxes well in excess of 30 grand. That seems like utter ****e. But then life went on and I made my decisions based on that environment and everything seemed to work out just fine. Lower them and prices will adjust and we will be right back at square one.

I would hate to see Mrs Peek's axe bill and try having the same attitude.

there's also plenty of protectionism as far as agricultural commodities are concerned.

And I would love it if the government got out of agriculture. What they're doing is just boosting up the guys who would otherwise go broke. I'd rather they go broke and I buy their land. Farmers are doing well, but I wouldn't say the sole reason is government. Corn prices are rather poor right now if you hadn't noticed, and wheat follows corn. Beef is quite high, but the cattle industry doesn't work with the government much.
