TCU A 30 Point Favorite vs. BYU

Sorry, I just started a cycle of steroids. I've got really bad bacne, my balls have shrunk, and I'm certainly a little more "extreme" than I've been, but I should be back to normal in no time.

And P.S.

The only way TCU DOESN'T cover is if they're bored outta their minds by the 4th Quarter. I'm sorry, in spite of a 3 point home win over SDSU, BYU is still not a good football team.

They're a different team. New DC, new players are playing. They essentially just pushed SDSU around in that game and ate up 3/4 of the game clock. SDSU's defense was highly ranked too, why do suppose that BYU won't be able to push TCU around a bit and eat clock? If they can do that half as well as in the SDSU game, 30+ is an impossibility. I want them to throw the ball around like crazy, but I'm thinking they might just try what worked again.

If the outcome of the BYU-SDSU had been different, I might be on the 30+ bandwagon. But as it is, I still see BYU covering the spread. If I were a betting man, I would put money on it.

Duck, before I go on with this explanation, please try to understand I'm not simply "hating" on your team. I think the opinion I'm about to give is very valid and would be shared by most who understand logic. With that being said.........

This team is not that "different" with Bronco now running the D. Are they in a better place mentally? Most certainly, but at the end of the day it still comes down to talent. Simply put: You cannot make chicken salad out of chicken ****. If you are seriously thinking that BYU can "push" around TCU's defense in the manner they did against SDSU, you are fooling yourself. TCU's talent on defense is at a completely different level than the Aztecs. ANYBODY willing to look at this with their eyes open would have to agree with that.

Not only is the talent clearly different between BYU and TCU, look back over the last few years when BYU actually had more talent on D than they currently have. It was still not enough to even come close to competing with TCU. Also, Bronco has never really succeeded in getting BYU jacked up enough to match the intensity that TCU brings when facing the Cougars. Why all of a sudden is that magically going to change now?

I'm sorry my friend, but even if Bronco had his defense emotionally ready to play the game of their lives, emotion only gets you so far. Talent gets you the wins, and in every phase of the game TCU is head and shoulders more talented than BYU. Once again, TCU and their team speed are going to murder BYU, and I'll repeat what I said earlier: The only way I see BYU covering is if TCU gets bored in the 4th qtr.

Hell, even if BYU is able to keep this game within 15-to-20 points, do you actually see that as some sort of moral victory? If so you need to ask yourself: Is BYU the type of program you really think it is when you as a fan are feeling good about keeping a loss under 30 points?

I don't think any of the BYU fans are actually so delusional that they think BYU can have their way with TCU (yes, I read Duck's post). If they can play their potential, they will show respectably. It is highly unlikely that they will beat TCU. There is just too great a talent gap there. But I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility for them to make a game of it.

Being a real fan is having optimism, and faith in your team.

Ok I was going to bite my tongue but there's too much garbage spewing from Saltys piehole. There goes salty again going from one end of an extreme to the other.

Huge difference between Bronco needing to be fired (who said that?) and now him being the Savior that puts BYU on par with TCU (who said that?).

In fact, it would clearly be awesome if Salty could clearly find quotes for posters clearly stating those two points above.

Otherwise, we can just label salty the hyperbolic Ute homer/BYU hater (not sure which it is) that he is. Clearly.

I saw BYU's improvement being decent. They're far more aggressive defensively. They actually blitzed, something that Jaime Hill never did. The aggression and excitement were there. If you didn't see it, then I suggest you actually watch the game. Which clearly, salty didn't do.

BYU's offense should improve, as they've been horrible most of the year. Even the dumbest BYU haters admit that Heaps will improve with each passing game. Why wouldn't he, he's a freshmen for crying out loud.

Whether or not that translates into Wins this year is beyond me.

I think BYU still loses by 4 touchdowns (at least). But they're better without Hill than with him.

BYU's "potential" is absolutely not good enough to make a game of it on the road against a top 5 team. They are going to get beat handily, in every facet of the game.

That is just the reality of the situation. There is a reason BYU is a 30 point underdog. The initial spread was not created by a bunch of Ute homers.

Clearly ogatintroll knew that and was just trying to hijack another thread. Ogatintroll has also been saying Bronco needs to be fired all season.

This whole topic is based on the spread of the game, I don't think BYU fans are looking toward moral victories. All I'm saying is that it's an easy call, not that I would be happy with that outcome.

BYU has this problem, they don't always let the best talent play. But injuries have happend and now they're playing by default. BYU also has this other problem called the "bend, but don't break" philosophy, which is now gone the way of Jaime Hill. Bronco Mendenhall is a great DC, just like Gary Crowton is a good OC. I'm not sure either of them are meant to be head coaches, but of course, they keep trying because the pay is usually better. I really don't think BYU lacks the talent to beat good teams.

But regardless, BYU needs some big plays to hang with TCU. They almost lost the SDSU by going too conservative with the playcalling. That obviously is not going to work @ TCU. A little play action would be nice.

I would argue that since TCU joined the MWC, this is the biggest talent gap BYU has ever had when compared to the Horned Frogs. How is it that the majority of BYU fans don't see that as well?
