Authorities arrested 17 students in a sweeping drug sting at Texas Christian University on Wednesday, a bust that included four members of the Horned Frogs football team.
Police said those arrested were caught making "hand-to-hand'' sales of marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs to undercover officers. They said the bust followed a six-month investigation prompted by complaints from students, parents and others.
"There is no doubt,'' TCU Police Chief Steve McGee said at a morning news conference.
Police said they had not determined whether any of the players were selling to other athletes. Chancellor Victor Boschini suggested the four players' involvement was not a sign of a larger issue.
"I don't think it's a football problem,'' Boschini said.
Still, the arrests stunned the campus community, coming just one day after a thrilling overtime victory by the men's basketball team and less than 24 hours after TCU released its football schedule for next season, its first in the Big 12 Conference. TCU has an enrollment of about 9,500 students.

One of the football players said that only about 20% of the team would actually pass a real drug test.

The TCU drug bust story is going to be the talk of the sports world for a while. Earlier today, four TCU football players were busted in a massive drug sting. The four players were part of a group who were selling numerous drugs all over campus.

One of the four players arrested was Devin Johnson. Reports are stating that Johnson told an undercover officer that 82 players failed a surprise drug test. The test was ordered by TCU head coach Gary Patterson after a football recruit said he would not attend TCU due to drug use.

This story is out of control. 82 players failing a test is unheard of. The suspensions and dismissals in this case will be tremendous.

I for one would like to see if this story is confirmed. 82 players? Jeez! Drugs, beautiful girls, warm weather, and a killer football team? Sounds like a perfect school

There can't be any overarching NCAA imposed sanctions or anything here right? They'll just boot the guys that are dealing, and probably a few others that are heavy users and call it good.

Oh wow just read all this and I wouldn't think so unless they could some how link the coaches or any staff members that knew, helped or covered up this incident than maybe I could see some. But then again I thought Auburn & Oregon would get in trouble and neither of those schools have (yet).

Last I heard, 5 players tested positive, and 11 were found to have "trace amounts" in their system.
