so if he gets convicted he will essentially go to jail for having sexual relations with his wife before getting married to her :D

A former Alabama high school teacher who was indicted on charges of having a sexual relationship with a student has now married her.

Matthew Shane Wester, 37, married Amy Nicole Cox, 18, over the weekend, AL.com reported.

The couple obtained a marriage license on June 8 and wed in Gulf Shores on Saturday, according to public records.

Authorities said the marriage could impact the criminal case against the former Cleveland High School math teacher.

The teenage bride, who works at fast-food chain Sonic, graduated from the high school in May.

'I was provided a marriage license this morning out of Cullman County, which confirmed that they were married on Saturday in Gulf Shores,' Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey told AL.com.

'The charges currently pending against Mr Wester stem from an investigation of his relationship with the victim while she was a student and he was a teacher.'

Wester, who was also a coach at the high school, was placed on paid leave in November 2014 amid allegations that he had sexual contact with a female student before later resigning.

He was indicted on one count of a teacher having sexual contact with a student in January.

He 'intentionally and knowingly engaged with a male or female student under the age of 19 in sexual contact which was done for the purpose of gratifying the sexual desire of either party, to wit - kissing and spending the night with the victim,' according to the indictment.

The age of sexual consent in the state of Alabama is 16 under the current criminal code.

After it was reported that Wester was taken into custody over the allegations, Cox's ex-boyfriend Don Brooks shared the story on Facebook with the caption 'F****** disgusting!'
Wester was married when the investigation began and has one child to whom his ex-wife was granted custody, AL.com reported. His divorce was made final in April.

Casey said that now that the legal status of their relationship has changed they will have to review the case to decide how to move forward.

Cox can testify for or against her now husband, according to Alabama law, but she cannot be forced to.

I can't help but wonder if this guy proposed, knowing she'd say yes, only to aid his case to the point that it could be dismissed or something of the like...and then once it is, a month or two later, he divorces her.

I hope it's not that and there is true love there (I feel weird even saying that) but my hunch is this guy is just a selfish dude.

hmmm, some grey area in this case imo. Weird. But at some point you gotta let people live their lives regardless of how weird it is.
