The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

Speaker Johnson is not a Trump puppet as evidenced by Trump wanting a 'no' vote on the budget deal and Speaker Johnson crossing the aisle to get the budget deal passed.
That may be in the instance in the case of the budget, but not for one second do I believe Johnson is not a puppet for the most evil, anti-American president in our history. Believe whatever you want. Here is what Trump did, and does.

1) Trump understood, as any astute demagogue would, the grievances and anger animating a significant % of the electorate. This has always been part of the genius of an effective demagogue. They have an almost instinctive understanding of what to say to become the leader of disaffected groups in society and the body politic.

2) Trump understood that he could speak to that portion of the electorate in a manner that would cause those people to see him as their spokesman, as their voice. Obviously, that is key, even to the point of creating a cult-like devotion among some followers. Donal Trump became the voice of the disaffected.

3) With that base in hand, Trump made sure to cement his place as a victim. The victim that stood in the way of the government coming for his followers next. Once cemented as victim, any criticism at all is seen as an attack by Trump’s enemies, and not folks trying to tell the truth of the matter to the American people. I think we’ve all seen such a dynamic in action. It too is a form of genius, minor and obvious maybe, but it sure is effective. Makes it hard to break through the brainwashing that is at the heart of “I am the victim, and you are next”. Any Republican that criticisms Trump is on shaky ground. As long as they know that, they must go along with Trump.

4) Once that base is in hand, once victimhood is understood to be a leading role for their leader, the GOP, knowing they keep loosing the popular vote as it is, have no choice but to not anger Trump. The GOP realizes they simply cannot lose a % of that base. Trump’s ploy has resulted in him being able to say a Republican will be banished from MAGA if he or she dares to oppose Donald Trump. This leaves the GOP stuck between a rock and a hard place.

5) Trump owns the GOP at the moment. At this stage, we already know he will claim “election stolen” if he loses in 2024. How long must we put up with this total BS?
When are we going to emerge into the light of reality, into a world where the consensus reality is missing the alternative nonsense of Trump and MAGA? When?!
Are we really going to move forward with two competing interpretations of recent history? How freaking stupid are we? How does that even work?

Not once have I seen one iota of concern from you regarding this clash of competing realities. Despite it being one of the greatest possible inflection points in our modern history! Crickets from people like you! Whereas, I have said from the start that a president sowing deliberate lies about our election integrety is one of the worst “crimes” a president could ever commit to our nation and body politic. And, but for a few, your GOP has no choice but to support his lies and support his damage.

Donald Trump did that, while you look for every reason you can find to diminish his influence. Sorry, but you are so very full of it, frankly, to ignore all these things.

So there is evidence in the form of the budget, and you admit the evidence is real, but you are going to ignore that evidence to hold on to your idea the evidence falsifies. Then you change the subject to someone who is not House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House has passed a bill to address securing the border, and Trump liking it or not liking it is irrelevant because the House has already passed it. The bill is HR-2, but it isn't going anywhere because the Democrats are refusing to touch it. Meanwhile the Democrats cannot craft their own bill in the Senate and are blaming Trump for their inability to craft a bill. This may shock you but the Democrat Senators do not take their marching orders from Trump. You believe the Trump excuse because you want it to be true that Trump is to blame for all the things even when it makes absolutely no sense that Trump would be the reason Democrat Senators cannot put a bill together.

Uh huh….

“So let’s take stock of what the likely Republican presidential nominee wants voters to believe. First, the economy is terrible, and people should definitely blame Biden. Second, parts of the economy are great, and people should definitely credit Trump.

And third, when people see economic data that might make them feel better about the resilient U.S. economy, they should assume that the figures are “fake,” unless Trump likes the data, in which case he’ll claim credit for the good news”.

Sounds about right

What happens when both parties work together? They get what each wants…
Democrats get more funding for benefits for illegal immigrants and the Republicans get tax breaks for Big Business. Synergy!!!

What does the average American get? More Debt and more Nothing. Just sad.

Realistically all politicians care about is getting re-elected and holding onto or increasing their personal power and wealth. You could fit all the politicians in the country who truly care about their constituency, beyond maintaining their vote, in the backseat of a Corolla.

I know a woman who is part of the city council where I live. She is a politician. She cares about the community. Volunteers for damn near everything. Supports local businesses.
She just got her first piece of legislation passed (it was centered on helping the homeless and helping with addiction) like a week ago. She is passionate, caring, selfless, empathetic, and extremely hard working.

I don't like how so many civilians in our society are so quick to just hate any and all forms of government and politicians and think they are all simply evil power hungry scumbags.
In fact I think that our society thinking that way and constantly vocalizing those thoughts will only help to create the exact type of politicians and government that everyone is bitching about.

Agreed. I think most of us that are pretty jaded in this respect are referring more to politicians on the national stage, senator, congressman, governor, president, etc. I think a lot of local politicians particularly on city councils, truly do care about their people, mainly because they live there and interact with them frequently. As opposed to say, senators that change districts to ensure they win the vote regardless of where they actually reside.

great news! I don’t agree with everything Biden does. And I sure wish he were younger. But I gotta think that most Americans don’t want to trade this for the chaos candidate whose sole focus is on revenge upon his perceived political enemies. Why would anyone want a return of the chaos, cruelty, and incompetence that we saw on full display in 2020? His solution for Covid was to stick a flashlight up your *** and inject disinfectant.

Ya gotta give Biden and his policies credit here. If you’d blame him for a bad economy now then ya gotta give him credit for the great economy we have. I for one just can’t afford to vote for Trump. My 401k and other investments are just too important to turn over to a reality tv president.

Fastest growing economy in the world. There just might be something with Bideneconomics folks! I’m definitely not tired from all of this winning!

Good stuff. I'm doing just as good or better financially now than I was 5 or 6 years ago. Making quite a bit more per hour/year and my 401k is doing really really well

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson passes another bipartisan bill. The House drafted a bill, got some Republicans to support it, got some Democrats to support it, brought it to the floor and passed it.
