If your idea of "education" is to allow teachers to give illustrated gay porn to elementary-aged children, then I agree that Trump's supporters will continue to be the enemy of that "education". It doesn't matter how many times pedophiles scream about books being banned, I don't see resistance to that idea going anywhere. If anything, I see the pendulum swinging back with some ferocity. In interviews, Kamala will no longer stand behind statements she made regarding support for fostering sexual identity in children. In the Senate debate between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred, Cruz had been hammering Allred on statements, votes, and documents Allred had signed on the sexualization of children. Colin Allred looked straight at the camera to say he didn't believe any of those things.

Public schools were stupid to have spent so much money defending it. Let children be children.

They will not acknowledge the real reason on why this is happening. I know you and I know this, but they don't care to know, can't use critical thinking skills or spend a small amount of time to research it. The funny thing is, it's not a right or left wing issue in Florida. All parents of all different politics are standing up for against books they dont want to see in their kids classrooms. There is a process for this as well. You can't have a conversation about this here either, they will just call you MAGA and anti-gay.

I understand it, just disagree with it. Desantis and Haley and many other republican candidates want the same type of policies as trump does. Those other candidates dont hate the democrats enough though. They aren't entertaining enough. They have no chance against how loud trump is. How in everyones face he is. Trump isn't the republican nominee due to policy. He is the nominee because he can fight the deep state and drain the swamp. The most fervent are the ones who vote in primaries. They care little about policy. They could have the policy without the horrible character. Governing in the US is a group effort. Congress is involved. They want the horrible character though.

My candidate DeSantis went against Trump and now he suffered because of it, lower favorability, lower support, both from the right. I don't know if he will have another chance now. But that was the primaries, not the GE.

Both you and I have highlighted the fact the most reputable ranker of US education has rated Florida as the #1 education system in the country.

It doesn't matter how many times the above image from the site or a link back to the site is shared. The narrative of Republicans, or Trump, or MAGA, or DeSantis, or Florida specifically would be highlighted as an example of what not to be. Even when they could see it, they couldn't see it. The information would go to their eyes and penetrate no further. There was no critical thinking, no adjusting of ideas.

I thought to myself that he had it backwards. To be clear, I have nothing against Sardines. I'm more than happy to listen to what he has to say and converse. Speaking for myself, I do engage. I engage with people who agree and people who do not. If someone has a piece of information showing I have gone off the rails, I'll take that in and adjust my thinking.

As wrong as Sardines was about engagement, he was more wrong about those choosing to see being confined to our own little sand pit. We aren't confined to anything. They are. The non-interactors have opted in to being confined from viewing all there is. Does that mean they'll die out? IDK. It will be interesting to see. Mostly I am finding amusement into users posting how they only see 5% of posts on a page as I think to myself they only ever saw 5% of the page. It is just a bit more obvious now.

Exactly. Trump won primaries because of his character. Trump was louder than Haley and Ron. He was tougher. He was meaner. He was manlier. Those same voters that voted for trumps character in the primaries still want his character in the general a few months later. They still think he is tough and manly and will fight the left with everything he has.

They aren't looking for a leader who can compromise and work with the other half (actually more than half) of Americans. They love that trump is a dick and douchebag. They think that is necessary to win the war against the enemy within. Nothing wrong with Ron's policies for these voters. Ron wasn't tough enough (immoral enough, corrupt enough, dishonest enough) to get the job done. These are positive characteristics for the trump supporters.

I think this will be an interesting convo going forward, especially if Kamala loses.

Much of the rest of the world, mainly Europe I guess, see America as very far right. Kamala is center right at best. The modern Democratic party is not nearly left leaning enough for me personally.

If Kamala loses I think that is the country finally rejecting the Dems being so similar to the conservative party but just putting a nicer face on things. It's been well established how performative much of their 'support' is. And at the end of the day politicians are politicians. And it's billionaire corpos and super pacs calling the shots, either way.

In that scenario my hope would be the response to Trump is an ACTUAL far left movement way more in line with those European countries, where the almighty dollar and 'economy line go up' is not the be all end all. We are a very long way from that, but maybe four more years of Trump would actually kickstart someone who holds positions more similar to Bernie Sanders and his ilk to having a real chance on the ticket. The same way Obama sort of birthed Trump for conservatives.

I'm just rambling at this point, but hopefully a point or two is getting through. If a Trump election led to a mass reconstruction of the current two-party system, that would certainly be a silver lining.

people really are not talking about this enough! Who is in charge of the country right now? Why was this change made and who made it? Biden sure as hell isn't in charge so who is doing this? This is a very big deal! This administration is making preparations for war on the American citizens. What else is this? Somebody needs to explain this ****. I couldn't give less of a **** about his vibes. He could be a much worse person than he is, and if he came out tomorrow with an aggressively progressive policy agenda (in a believable manner!!), I'd vote for him in a second.

Even if we get a Kamala-Walz presidency for 4-8 years, with their milquetoast policy agenda that improves very little of our daily lives and just serves to maintain the status quo, there's going to be a referendum against the ineffectivity of half-measure democrat governance. When it happens, and it's not ****ing Trump on the other side, who everybody hates, it's going to come in the form of somebody from the republican side who's just as fascist, if not more, and it's going to come in a goddamn landslide.

People like @fishonjazz talk about how great their lives are (love that for you btw, mine isn't too bad either) but I don't believe this is reflected in the reality of the majority. There's a reason people are turning to freaks like Donald Trump. It comes from frustration in the insecurity of their daily lives.

I don't want DJT to win, because I believe this is going to cause a lot of harm, but at the same time it's clear that we're being forced to choose between pain that's going to materialize now or a few years down the line.

The good news is that the economy is broadly doing pretty well these days.

"We've seen new highs for the stock market's major averages, falling inflation, the Federal Reserve shifting into easing mode and a job market close to the level associated with full employment," Mark Hamrick, a senior economic analyst at the financial-services company Bankrate, said in recent commentary.

Real disposable personal income per capita — a widely used measure of the money people have to spend or save — spiked in the early pandemic because of stimulus checks in 2020 and 2021 and the expanded child tax credit for the 2021 tax year.

While real disposable personal income per capita cooled off as inflation accelerated in 2022, it has been gradually rising — and is above where it was before the pandemic and close to the prepandemic growth trend.

This year, the S&P 500 has been historically high multiple times. MarketWatch reported Saturday that it had hit 47 record highs this year. This index of large publicly traded US companies reflects corporate America doing quite well, and the rising figures may be good for people's retirement-savings portfolios.

Reiman chalked it up to strong consumer spending, slowing inflation, and lower interest rates leading to higher corporate profits and valuations.

I cant really think of anything any president has done that has had a significant effect on my life for good or bad. Only thing that really comes to mind was the child tax credit which gave me an extra 2,000 bucks around tax time which was nice. Probably also increased inflation though.
I think if Bernie was president nothing significant would have happened to have effect my life for good or bad either (I did vote for him in the 2016 primaries and then for elizabeth warren in 2020). Government is made up of thousands of people at the state and federal level.

Presidents continually ignoring anti-trust laws over the past 3 decades generating much higher prices over time eroding your disposable income. You could have had a much better truck, better vacations, more in your 401k, etc etc.

I don't think that happened because the presidents ignored it. I think it's because thousands of people involved ignored it including us, the average US citizen. We never prioritize things like that when we vote, why would government? When there are town halls or Q and A with government employees I doubt anti trust laws come up very often.

Also, I'm good with my truck, vacations, 401k etc. I have it way better than most everyone else in all the other countries in the world. I got no complaints.

Yes, but also I don't buy that if she's elected she's suddenly going to go left or something. That doesn't happen. If she's going to get painted as an extremist either way, her campaign should lean into her and Tim Walz's progressive record (very popular things if messaged correctly). This is a lesson the Democrats have refused to learn for three presidential cycles now. They'd rather lose or win on the flip of a coin than commit to progressive policy. Why? I think the answer is pretty obvious. The decision-makers at the top and those who influence them have a material interest in never improving the lives of the average citizen.
