The main ereason why i am a big big al "hater". is because jazz could do fine without his offense. because the defensive gain would outweigh the "loss" on the offensive side.
big al doesnt try to defend the pick and roll which leads to wide open shots which leads to players getting hot and in a zone.
note i do not hate big al he is a nice person one of the nicest personalities in the whole nba, i whsih him all the best and succes whether it be in a jazz uni or not.
if i had some spare timeand some video editing software i would make a video to prove my point. comparing the pick and roll defense of al vs favors(also put some millsap in there)

Brevin knights goin to the game with bombs strapped to his chest. I don't think he has the balls to blow esa up but the threat will delay the game for a while. He didn't like how things ended between the jazz and him. So technically he will stop nash by stopping the whole game.

...here is where most of you basketball "geniuses" fail miserably. The pick in roll, when run properly, is not possible to stop. Stockton and Malone proved that to the tune of 1st ballot HOF, with records that won't be broken. As Van Excell said so eloquently: You can stop it by bringing a baseball bat and killing one of them! You can, however, disrupt it ONLY by denying the main ball handler, in this case, Nash, the ball on every possession! If you keep the ball away from Nash as much as possible, running down the 24 second clock, then the effectiveness of the pick and roll will be limited. Pippen use to do that to Stockton. He wasn't always successful, but it went a long way to slowing down the effectiveness of that dynamic duo's pick and roll. YOU MUST limited Nash's touches and time with the ball on every possession. If you don't, he will run circles around the Jazz defense and we will get beat. It's as simple as that.

wrong again running the pick and roll between 2 hall of famers is difficult to stop.
but a pick and roll with nash and who???? some no name players? now that's easy to stop.

You can't keep the ball away from Nash - it's virtually impossible to do at the NBA-level. What you can do is trap him and try to get it out of his hands, and take your chances playing 4-on-3 elsewhere which can be dangerous if someone else gets hot - but if you try that, you better have bigs who can move.
Nobody's talking about stopping it, we're talking about containing it the best we can - which involves Favors' ability to show out and then recover before Gortat rolls all the way to the basket. Relying on Favors' ability works best for the Jazz because then you don't have to worry about rotating help from the weakside - which is something Utah isn't very sharp at and where we can get into trouble. If you go back and watch the 2nd-half of the Jazz/Suns game from 3/14, you'll see Favors had 3 defelctions against screen-roll because of his ability to move his feet and clog the passing lane.
Pippen didn't "keep the ball away" from Stock as much as he was the help-defender who rotated over - so Chicago would force it baseline, (where their exception length prevented Stock from finished at the rim) and Pippen would rotate over to Malone, and then Stock would be caught underneath trying to make a pass to the weakside through the long arms of Pippen, Jordan, Ron Harper, Rodman, Longley/Kukoc, ect.
If the Suns' pick-and-roll truly was impossible to stop, Phoenix wouldn't be battling for the 8th-seed. They're going to get alot of good looks off of it, but you have to limit the paint points (Suns are averaging 55 pts in the paint in first 2 games) they get from it and Favors is most effective at preventing Gortat from getting alot of cheapies.

If Nash doesn't have to play defense, he will carve up ANY team in the NBA. MAKE HIM PLAY DEFENSE and we have a chance to wear him down, especially late in the game. Whoever Nash is guarding, get him the ball!!

Agreed, but Phoenix isn't stupid, they do a great job hiding Nash in their pseudo 2-3 zone. Best way to attack Nash defensively is in transition - which you know Utah doesn't want to get into a track meet, but the Jazz are at their best when they push the ball at home and feed off the crowd. So if we can get stops (which goes back to our screen-roll defense), we need to look to push the ball at Nash and the Suns where they can't set up their zone in transition.

NOT true at all! You have a 24 second clock. You can deny Nash the ball for 10-14 seconds and that only leaves him 10-14 seconds to set up the pick and roll. But players don't want to put forth the effort to deny the ball. IT CAN be done! Harris use to do it.....until they started paying him too much money!
