This is basketball ignorance. No offense to you personally. Saying Trey is taking too many shots or is lacking in assist is just simple minded prejudice against Burke. What matters in hoops is taking smart shots and moving the ball. Sometimes that means you take a lot of shots and moving the ball doesn't always result in an assist.

Saying Trey has to fit into your meaningless "statical box" or he isn't a good player is just wrong.

Burke shot 50/40/90 in that preseason stretch

If anything you want the team to find him for more spot up shots. I don't care how many shots Burke takes if they are open and in the flow of the offense.


If Burke hits a few shots in a row, do you want him to have a shot limit in his head and just pass up open looks?

The only shot Burke really has to, IMO, crack down is the quick midrange jumper off the PNR. Not that it's a terrible shot, but last year he had a tendency to go to it too early in the shot clock. That is the shot modern defenses almost always give anyone, and it tricks shot happy players into thinking they are taking a good shot. I don't mind him taking those if he is really rolling, but not all the time like he had a tendency to do last year.

I like him off the bench a lot more, since his tendencies don't come at the expense of our best players. It seems Rudy, our most Spartan of warriors, agrees. I'll take that side.

But I don't think that is what you want out of that position, that type of player. PG's are generally the shortest, quickest, fastest guys on the team. You want them pushing the pace and you also want them to be the floor leader, the general getting them into their offense, getting the other guys good looks at spots that they like them. Sorry, but I think that TB does not fit that bill, does not fit well as a PG. How many 6'0" spot up shooters do you know of in the league? What value does he really bring? Too slow, too poor a passer to be a good PG, too short and lacking in hops to be a combo guard.

PS: he has a chance to be an acceptable player IF he shoots really well. Otherwise he has too many deficiencies.

Burke's career is as long as it is. His career thus far is defined by 2 seasons. What angle are you looking for?

I'm not saying he can't improve. I will say his best shot at improvement is settling into a bench role.

I've also advocated for Hood starting. I think that's a no-brainer.

You cannot define a career, but you can get a damn good idea about a guy's potential, strengths and weaknesses. TB is short, relatively slow, relatively lacking in quickness and athleticism, not any more than average at passing, a liability on defense. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what I see. I also suspect other teams are going to be plenty happy if he takes the most shots on our team. It will be up to him to prove that is a bad proposition. Looking much better this preseason, lets see the regular season.

This is what I don't understand! When he is brinking much like last year fine you're shooting too much. However if you're putting up the gold standard for efficiency and the opposing teams are giving you shots you keep shooting.

Can we expect Trey to put up that gold standard all season during the regular season that's debatable.
However to complain while he is putting up those numbers just shows a personally prejudice against a player.
