The Gordon Hayward Question(s)

When you first come into the league and you have your team leaders and vets saying you are not going to make I bet it messes with your head.

I do not know if it means DWill but either way that is retarded of the players saying it. If you really think that then fine. Keep it to yourself and let the kid have a chance.

I doubt Dwill said that publicly or to Hayward. Probably just consulted with the Jazz FO before or after the draft. I think it was clear Dwill was frustrated with Hayward early (can't really blame him though, he was terrible early).

Totally disagree. Dwill's responsibility as a leader is to grow players around him. Not criticize a 20 year old Kid.

I respect Dwill's talent, I think he is a cancer to any team he is on.

Glad he is gone.

I would assume he did not say that to Hayward directly but people gossip and you can tell when someone has no faith in you. Having no faith in someone is not that easy to hide. I am sure Gordon knew DWill did not like him or have faith in him.

I do not think DWill is a cancer to any team he just became one to the Jazz thru a series of events.

Just want to share some of my thoughts from the podcast....

1. I loved the story about Kanter, picking up a basketball for the first time at the age of 14. I knew he was inexperienced, but I didn't know it was to that extreme. It was suggested that's why he has good form on his jumper, and picking up the game so late in life is going to keep bad habits out of his game

2. What's the deal with guys like Al and Favors using tree branches and milk crates for a basketball rims, could they not go to the local schools like me and my bros did just about every day growing up? Just thought it was weird.

3. Loved how they talked about teaching the young guys to win and not just get their numbers. Ty is teaching them to make winning plays, and not just getting numbers. They talked about a play vs. the Suns when the jazz were on a fast break and Burks pulls up for a three and misses badly, which starts a break at the other end creating a 4 point swing instead of making the best of the opportunity that they had to score on a fast break and take some momentum.

4. The talk about Carroll answered the question about why we signed him. I remember everyone was thinking there was going to be a trade. At one point it was said that they had interest in signing Carroll before the season until they signed Howard, but continued to keep tabs on him during the season. I also thought I heard KOC say he was signed through next year. Did I hear that right? If so that makes me less scared that the jazz might resign Cj.

5. KOC said the reason they didn't gut the team was they thought they could compete.

6. Interesting comment from Harris after the Win against the Spurs. He said they began to really pack it in with all
5 guys guarding the paint making it tough to go inside, so Harris decided he would have to take it upon himself to make shots and make plays if they would win. Harris showed he could be a leader on this team, and carry this team when needed

7. Last just a thought about Phil Johnson. I loved listening to him. I think he is a great basketball mind, and wish Sloan would've waited till the end of last season to retire or step down. Maybe Phil would've been named head coach. This is nothing against Ty as the head coach, just think he is that good and more experienced as a coach and worth at least 2 or three extra wins.

They did give the Job to Phil Thee jazz fan. He turned it down and said he was stepping down with Sloan. Phil was always the first choice of the FO to take over for Jerry

I fall asleep listening to Phil talk. Not a good sign on a head coach.

I think Hayward is in the Allstar game next season and beyond. Listening to Barkly and Kenny Smith heap praise on Hayward during the rising star's challenge, it's obvious that he's already got good buzz around the league. Not only that, but if you listen to Jazz pregame very often, just about every opposing coach gushes about Hayward and how great he is or is going to be.

I was on board with the Hayward pick at the time but this recent stretch has even surpassed what I thought he'd be able to do. The kid is turning into a legit franchise cornerstone. Add to that the potential we're starting to see from Favors and Burks and I can't help but think that KOC deserves an A+ for how he's handled this roster since the Hayward pick and the D-Will exodous.

I was more speculating. I never said he would've been named coach, just that the way Sloan left was odd which might have made Johnson feel he needed to be loyal to Sloan. Just saying that if Sloan had played out the year Johnson might have been more willing to be the coach.

Again it was just speculation.

i think hayward has a lot more work to do before he gets an all-star spot. not only do the jazz have to be a clear playoff team for that to happen, but hayward also has to be the jazz's clear-cut best player. even then, he'll probably be listed as a forward on the ballot, and that's the west's deepest spot, so nothing is guaranteed.

I absolutely love Hayward. Bot only because of his talent, versatility, and winning attitude. But because he simply works his *** off. He has improved every area of his game. He has become a good passer, finisher, and defender. He plays calm but tough. He never backs down, but he is not at all self-absorbed. He wants to win, and he's willing to do what it takes to accomplish that. I foresee great things in his future, and I hope Burks can learn from him.

I don't care how good George or anyone else is. I think Hayward was a very successful pick.

Here here.

I just want to add that Hayward's success comes despite not great physical tools. That is not a backhanded compliment, but rather a tribute to just how good of a pure basketball player he is. Playing smart, hard, and with the right mentality is as much of a talent/skill as anything is (probably more so).

I think it's the tennis. The only other pro athlete I know of who was a top ranked HS tennis player was Drew Brees.

Hayward finally getting some good NBA recognition. Cool video, but nothing really don't know about him already. Too bad they didn't mention his rapping or his starcraft :D
