What's new

the improbability of Joe Ingles' defense

I was sitting on the 8th row behind the basket and could not for the life of me figure out why Lebron was not dunking on Ingles every time. Somehow he was choosing to shoot fadeaways. I hope nobody can figure it out so Joe can keep it up without being exposed.

at some point someone will torch him but i don't think it'll be regular ..

I was laughing out loud for about half the game last night. It was my favorite game of the season (right behind the Jazz vs Spurs win). Joe Ingles was a huge part of the run we had before the half. Then Lebron came back the second half and kicked our butts for about 5 minutes until Quin came to his senses and put Jingles back in on Lebron. I paid close attention to watch what would happen and the results? Lebron missed his next shot and 3 of his next 4.

Jingles is a solid nickname, but with all of the references to him as an old, fat, slow man... I propose a new nickname.

Joe Ingles should just be known as:

DAD

i like "Father time". Because you know when Joe giving you the buisness "Father time" got you.

Because Ingles was playing solid position defense and had Lebron chose to dunk it he would have gotten an offensive foul. Ingles was in great position on defense throughout that game. Positioning is 75% (or more) of defense.
I say it still defies logic. There were plays iso plays with tons of room and no double team where he made no attempt to drive. I assume he could go around an reverse if he needed that much distance to get past. I just don't buy that you just need position to guard Lebron and he will settle for fadeaways.

Regardless Joe is the man!

I've said ever since his first year he was one of the best transition defenders on the team, and would always make the right decision, whether it meant contesting or fouling or trying to draw a charge. Did not see his half court defense becoming this good though

Ingles is quick for someone of his height, I think. He is not athletic in any convencional way, of course, he is not explosive, but his reaction time seems great. Besides, he has a great wingspan and, perhaps more importantly, has been playing with a lot of focus on the defensive end.

He has quick hands, nothing about his feet are quick though. If you look at his DX page, he measured w/ a 6'10 wingspan which would make him our longest wing player. That is the source of his defense, his ability to both people with his length.
