What's new

The Jazz Now have a top 10 Offense AND Defense!

Lol, remember the clowns coming out a month ago to declare Utah's FO to be completely incompetent?

That #27 draft pick was just disastrous and really destroyed the team. Silly me for thinking people were overreacting.

FIRE EVERYBODY!!!
So your defense for the Jazz wasting a pick on a player that has absolutely nothing to do with the current success is that it wasn't that bad?

It's awesome that the Jazz are awesome, let's stick to that instead of your weird persecution complex by proxy.

Just you wait three years and see... please don't look at Memphis who has Tillman and Bane in the rotation now doing good things. I get it... neither guy would be in our rotation this year but Bane brings something we will need as soon as next year and Tillman is a big but at least has a different skillset so we can run multiple styles.

That pick was/is still a terrible use of an asset. We really gonna move Favs this offseason after he plays well for us to clear the room for Udoka to get some PT? I would rather have them punt on the pick and get one in a later draft or cash it in to move down and pick up a few second rounders. Its just super weird to use draft capital to dump a guy you never should have drafted and draft a guy that will have similar issues finding playing time on the same night.
What's gonna be awesome is seeing the Jazz get rid of Favors using assets this offseason to cushion the tax ramifications of keeping Conley. It would actually be the best case scenario (keeping Conley, and vindication for the Doke pick), depending on what assets the Jazz have to attach to unload Favors.

Dennis Lindsey and Quin are dropping a huge... suuuuuuuckit to all their haters.

I am still not a fan of Quins rotations but at least Oni is getting a few minutes. Dennis hasn't made all the same moves i would have but he is getting some deserved redemption these days.

Fact is Oni and Shaq aren’t as good.

Historic year for the Jazz, we might not see a better year. Best chance for a championship is this year. Tax will screw things up.

It's wierd to me how much anger people have towards our draft pick. Draft picks don't help you their first year or even second. Sometimes it takes 5 years or so until they are solid players that help you win. That's why you take the best player regardless of fit. Dumb GMs pass on better players because they already have a good player at that position. Dok might end up being a bad pick but that's a long ways away from knowing. He definitely isn't a bad pick because of his position.

I agree and I disagree. You said that draft picks don't help you in their first or second year.
I kinda feel like our very own Donovan mitchell helped us in his first two years.

I'm certain Donovan isn't the only player to ever help a team in their first or second years either.

Now if you said they USUALLY don't help in their first 2 years then I can dig it.

Its because teams like Miami, Philly, and OKC are finding contributors through the draft that make a difference first year.

Combine that with Quin being touted as a development coach and the development of draft picks not happening at the rate of other teams and it is frustrating.

Fans have every right to be upset about not seeing similar development out of our youth.

I'm saying that as a general statement. You're right some do. It's very very rare for a rookie to help win. A little less rare the second year, but still not likely. There are always exceptions but generally you aren't drafting a player to help you that year. So my point remains that the irrational dislike if the pick is misguided.

Mitchell was very rare as a rookie and what he did. I think we can all agree. Fortunately we had Gobert to really allow some of what he did. I also think the team liked him and saw potential. They were willing to sacrifice winning to help develop him. But Mitchell showed otherwise.

Having Royce starting and Niang as a rotational guy says a lot about what the Jazz do from a developmental perspective. You can add Joe to the mix as well. It is rare for the process to not take multiple years. Plenty of misses but notable successes which is true in the draft as well. Personally I really like both picks this year. I am curious who are the front offices and coaches that are doing better at development and drafting? I am sure there are some but I would put us in the top 25%.

Important minutes help you develop. Garbage? Not so much.

When Austin Rivers scored 25 points in 12 minutes, one would think you try out Oni to see if he can do it. No one else could stop him.
Sometimes guys just get hot, he was shutout completely in the second half. Fact is guys like Ingles, Royce, and Niang give the jazz a better shot at winning, jazz are in serious win now mode. So why would the jazz give those mins away for guys who would mess with that?
