How much is a fringe starter like Chandler worth? To me, he's a guy you underbid for, not a guy you overbid for.
Previous experience was with the sentimental fool called Larry H. The sad, sad day is coming for all the AK supporters who have to leave this board and cheer for another team when AK signs elsewhere. As for signing both, it can't and won't happen. AK coming off the books gets the Jazz under the luxury tax, but not $17M under the old salary cap. Who knows what the new numbers might be, but I'd venture a guess that with the salaries that are already assigned to Jefferson, Millsap, Okur and Harris, the Jazz would only have perhaps $8-$10M to spend before exceeding the new tax threshold. With limited cap space (if any) they could probably only offer the MLE to Chandler. I imagine there will still be a "Bird" clause enabling teams to exceed the cap to retain there own FA's, so offering AK $7-$8M would be possible. But WHY? He's limited to 60 games, his skills and desire have been declining for 7 years. And if that was the plan, why would the Jazz have picked up CJ's option? You have Hayward, CJ, Burks and Bell at the wings, with Millsap perhaps getting some time at the 3. There aren't minutes to give to AK.I'd love the Jazz to resign AK at $7-8 million, but previous experience w/ Jazz management is leading me to believe they will sign him for $10million.
Brace yourselves. It's going to be a sad, sad day.

What are the chances Denver doesn't match on Chandler with JR Smith now departed, I'm thinking 0.
Wilson Chandler said he has signed a contract with the Zhejiang Guangsha of the Chinese Basketball Association, a move that would essentially preclude him from participating in the 2011-12 NBA season if the lockout ends and the games begin.
In addition, the CBA will not allow escape clauses that would allow players to leave the Chinese league in the event the NBA resumes operations. So Chandler would not be a part of the NBA if the season begins on time or even with an abbreviated schedule starting in January or February.
I believe if he doesn't get extended this upcoming year then the Nuggets will no longer have his rights (a la Ben Gordon). He should be unrestricted next offseason.
I think it makes complete sense..... and here's why.
Only one year in Kirilenko's career, has he ever played all 82 games of the season.... and that was his rookie year.
If you get a starter quality player like Chandler at a price the Jazz can afford, you get a 110 percent Kirilenko off the bench with monitored minutes.
And you also minimize the probability of him getting hurt (which usually seems to be back spasms or inflamed old injuries).
The way AK plays, it puts him at a high risk for injury. All the twisting and turning he does in the air on the court, and his pretty thin frame are evidence of this.
Again, 20 minutes a game off the bench would reduce that risk and allow him to go all out while he's in the game.
I really don't think there's many benches in the league that can handle reserves such as AK, Millsap, Kanter, and hopefully a 100 percent dead eye shooting Okur.
I think it also makes perfect sense considering the Jazz's almost 10 year injury bug that's plagued them.
