What's new

The Lakers, Kevin Love and the Utah Jazz

Getting back to the topic:

Warriors are jonesing for Love. But they don't want to give up Klay. Their offer is allegedly Lee, Barnes and their 2015 pick. However, I didn't think they could offer their 2015 pick since they traded away this year's #1. Maybe they'd have to buy another one. Hope the TWolves hold out for more. Lee is an old man, Barnes doesn't have #7 pick value and any GS pick will be late 1st. I think Love is worth way more than that.

Yeah, from the t-wolves management perspective, they don't have enough to offer (that they would give up). Love will probably go to the bulls. They have two picks in this draft, etc.

I think we could offer more to Minnesota than GSW could, with Favors, #23, Burke, and a future pick or something, but Love wouldn't agree to an extension here at this time.

Chicago looks like the most likely destination. They can give two picks and Boozer. That seems to be the easiest thing to do.

Boozer seems to be pretty easy to be had if wanted. The question is, is he wanted? Would this lineup be worth Boozer?

Burke, Livingston, Neto
Hayward, Burks
Wiggins, Marvin
Boozer, Marvin, Evans
Favors, Gobert

You are going to get 45-55 wins with this team, depending on Burkes and Wiggins abilities.

You eat up cap space for this year, you have a proven scorer in Boozer taking pressure off Wiggins, you get cap space next year again, you only give up Kanter and maybe the #23 and you get to keep Burks.

I'd really consider this deal. You'd even have a couple million under the cap and exceptions to add another PF/C.

If Kanter's ceiling is Boozer/Al, why are we so desperate to keep him? Why not move Kanter for the player he may possibly, someday be, not have to commit to that guy long term, and win now?

I just don't get all the Kanter love. Even if he pans out and becomes an All-Star, he is still just Boozer or Al Jefferson, and we all hated those guys. Why would we suddenly love Kanter?

Third year stats:

16 pts, 11 rebs, 51% fg, 2 blks - Al
18 pts, 9 rebs, 52% fg, 1 blk - Boozer
12 pts, 7 rebs, 49% fg, 1 blk - Kanter

But, it's all Corbin's fault, right?

I'd really consider this deal. The problem is, Boozer costs so much, you probably can't sign Hayward, Marvin and Livingston.

Kanter's ceiling is not Al or Boozer dude. Neither of those dudes are as fast or athletic as him, and neither have a perimeter game. Just be patient. Jazz are.

And as for Kanter's stats being less than those two in his third year, there a couple of factors:

1. Kanter was and is still really raw. We've always known that.
2. Al was playing 33 + minutes a night and started 60 something games for his club, while Boozer got alsmost 35 per, and started 50 + games. I mention starting, because those who start usually get the better rotation in the game (when they sit, and for how long). Kanter got 26.7 minutes and started 37 games. In this instance, it would be more accurate to cite his 36 minutes avg., which is 16.6 pts, 10.1 reb, 1.3 ast, .5 stl, .7 blks, and 2.4 to. All in all, that is not bad for a kid who has less basketball experience then a lot of rookies who will be coming out this year. At 21 yrs old, Kanter could've been a rookie.

Locke has said the Boozer is Kanter's ceiling. We forget how good Boozer was for us. He was amazing. Had he had a defensive C behind him, he and DWill might still be here (which I don't know if that is good or not). We were spoiled with Malone, ripped on Boozer too much and were stuck with Al because of it.

If Kanter could ever get to Boozer's level, that would be an amazing success.

I think I'm getting to the point with this thread where I am thinking up all sorts of crazy crap. Tonight needs to happen so we can all begin to dream...

From the horse's mouth

Ummm, they've expressed doubt that Favors and Kanter could play together.

Here is one for you: As far as whether or not Kanter and Favors will have problems coexisting, the GM said, “Frankly, that’s nonsense.”

......Where doe this "Ummmmm" come from. Is it just me or do other people find it condescending?......

Oh, so Locke has spoken. End of discussion. Case closed, eh?

Nothing against Locke, as he is a fine person, and I enjoy his Tip-Off podcast, but there is a reason why the Jazz don't consult him when scouting talent. Locke has traditionally been one of Kanter's biggest critics. If the FO that Al or Boozer was Kanter's ceiling, why would they let Al go? Be patient.

That's fine. Please show me anyone that doesn't post here, that still sees Kanter becoming as good as Boozer.

We completely overvalue a guy that doesn't pass, hasn't shown the ability to hit a mid range shot, doesn't play defense, isn't overly athletic, doesn't block shots, doesn't run the floor, etc.

He does hit mid range shots, and he does run the floor. It is baffling that you expected him to be better without playing, or having an offseason. How exactly was he supposed to get better? He is not overvalued, he is not inder valued. He is developing, so be patient and see where it goes.
