It's been alluded to in other posts, so mebbe this aint worth it's own thread, I dunno. But, either way, I really like the added "nastiness" the new players seem to bring. We lost that in Matthews, but not Booza or Korver (although I thought Korver was much "tougher" than Boozer). But what we lost in Wes has been more than made up for by addin Bell and Jefferson.

Under the guidance of some candyass coach, this might not be a remarkably "nasty" team, but Sloan aint no candyass coach. Other teams aint gunna like playin this team any more than Pistol Pete liked playin against Sloan. I pity da foolz.

problem is the leagues rules have been femalecat-ifiated.

like flagrant are called faster the ammount of tehcnicals you can rack up in a year etc etc.

it has become a soft game

True dat, Dutch. Back when Sloan played, he probably never managed to go more than a month without gittin into a fistfight. As far as I know, he was never fined just for that. He may have gotten a foul called on him. He might even have been ejected from that particular game, now and again, but mainly the refs' (and the league's) reaction was just: "Hey, you two break it up, and let's finish this game. You're delayin it."
 
So, does Jerry instill toughness or does he need tough players to have a tough team? Seems like the latter to me. Sorta like his coaching of defense. Lot of talk but no results.

Sloan has said it over and over: He don't know any way to make a soft-*** player change his nature. You're either tough, or ya aint. But if ya is, and if Sloan is coachin your ***, well, then..
 
Anybuddy remember that playoff game againt the Lakers, bout a year back, when Bynum would "accidentally" bump into Deron after the Lakers scored and the Jazz were gittin ready to inbound the ball? After a couple of times like that, Deron dribbled the ball downcourt and passed to his right. Then he ran, HARD, to his left for 10-15 feet right smack into Bynum.

Ya think Jerry told him not to pick up "unnecessary" fouls like that? I don't think so! Homey don't play dat!
 
This thread would be classic if just the OP and CJ participated in it. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum going back and forth for a few pages.
 
Deron is a pretty nasty player too, someone who will make you pay if he thinks you are trying to show him up. I hated Bell after he left the Jazz, I just thought he was a thug. Hehe, oh how opinions change when people wear a different jersey.

I remember that, but Bynum was more like "wtf" than actually feeling any physical pain :)
 
I fear with Okur still as the Anchor in the paint, the added nastiness coming from the new players will be diluted. The dude is a ****ing creampuff.
