What's new

The Let's all hold hands and give Burks a chance thread.

Compare and contrast, my friend.

Contrast: CJ never showed a propensity to elevate his game. Burks has.

I'm no Burks fan but he has shown a willingness to learn from mistakes and improve fundamentally. He might be failing in his new role but at least he continues to try. I never saw this from the father of chucking.

Contrary to being the current target of fan hate, the kid has not regressed at all.

Burks has made solid yoy improvements while being more of a focal point, something that tends to have the reverse effect on box score stats. His A:T is up 17%, TOV and AST% up sharply, and he's getting to the line 15% more. The only area he seems to have declined in is 3 point shooting percentages. However, it seems like many of his shots are late shot situations where he has to create off the bounce. That's a poor shot but one he has to take. Not his fault.

Outside of stats, he's clearly made improvements playing within the offense both on and off ball. There were times last season that he looked lost, and having him as a playmaker was a disaster. He's been a much better facilitator in spite of having a weaker surrounding cast.

This sounds like something a lawyer would write. Not playing within the offense, not making better choices made with improved basketball IQ, constantly taking long 2s, horrendous shooter outside the paint, and overall lackluster and difficult to get any value out of him in a trade.

CJ Miles played a good season in '07-'08 so I was on board for a couple of years. I don't remember what happened specifically that made me turn so hard but it happened. His playing poorer and poorer each season was obviously a gradual thing.
