The Missing Piece

Yep, he was injured. Did you not pay any attention to the playoffs? Favors got hurt and wasnt going to play but he gutted through and played 15 min a game the last two. He was much better than Gobert those games. He didn't sit because of fitting with Gobert or not being playable against Houston.

Facts are Favors and Gobert can play together very well. They always have. I've shown the stats.

Favors was great this post season again.

Against OKC, sure. They cannot, however, play against teams who launch 40 3s a game. That's just not enough foot speed. Then on the other end you have both Favors and Gobert who cannot successfully post up a guard and score. It just doesn't make sense.

Favors had great moments this postseason, but to say he had a great postseason is a massive stretch. He had a huge game against OKC and a huge shot game 6. Against Houston, he was solid but never a game changer.

I could easily see Hezonja becoming one of the leagues best shooters within a couple years.

He puts a nice high arc on his shot. His form looks good and its a quick release. He can also shoot with range beyond the 3 point line, and mid range. It looks like a pure shooters touch like Klay Thompson.

Even with crazy inconsistent playing time he still shot 33% from 3. If you look at his whole career he basically has never been given a real chance except for a handful of games this last year. Even before the NBA he spent 3 years in Europe not getting a lot of minutes. Thats not how you develop talent. You got to give him a chance to find some rythym and get better.

To beat the Warriors and Rockets we need players who can hit the 3. We need to find those players. Brick layers like Jae Crowder arent going to cut it.

I don't think Favors is the problem against GS/Houston.. I think Rudy is.
Houston scored less than they have this year.

Favors couldn't stay on the floor against their spacing.

We had to have someone protecting the rim, so we went with the guy that protects the rim.

Sorry you disagree with the best coaching staff in the league.

Does Hezonja defend? Is he gritty? If the answer to both is "no", you'd have trouble getting me to cough up half the MLE for him if I was making the call.

I am actually naive here.

I don’t see why people don’t get it sometimes. You can’t bend and play their style or you have already lost.

Rudy was also one of the reasons we were in those games... he completely changed theirnshot profile. Not his fault that we couldn’t shoot.

The missing piece(s) are Crowder and O'Neale working with Quin and Bryant in the off-season to improve their 3pt shooting. Imagine if those two, plus Donovan came back hitting ~38%.

Id say yes he is. I havent watched every minute of his games either but from what I can tell he is at least adequate with potential to be a good defender. He certainly isnt bad.

Here are a couple videos I dug up. This one is his draft express scouting tape. Defensive upside was one of his strengths. At 6:13 they go into his defense.

This one is from this season before he reallly got his chance. The defense part is at the end.

He looks to me like he has good lateral quickness and can stay in front of his man. His athleticism gives him potential for steal and blocks which he does have some nice highlights of.

Id say yes he does have grit too. He has a fiery personality.

Hezonja does defend sometimes. I paid him some attention this year as he was on my fantasy basketball team. He does well when bigger player post him up or other player try to overpower him. He needs to develop better skills about getting over screen and staying with off the ball action.

Offensively he has a 3 pt shot and the ability to drive and finish. What he needs is coaching to teach when it is okay to work into a pull up jumper. I like him a lot at the right price. But he is a risk.
