OK here you go, vent all you want. Defend your favorite vacuous orator if you can. Let the world know how you really feel. Immediately sticky this thread, it is going to be that good.

Personally I can stomach Harp, but absolutely cannot stand Bolerhack. And don't give me any of that "then you don't listen to any other announcers". That is a lot like saying "eat your bowl of **** because his bowl of **** tastes ******** than yours does".

I do not blame Harp too much for being insipid, after all, look who his mentor is.

If I have to hear "bang down" or "early-oop" one more time I think I will dig out a random strangers eyeballs with a spoon. Hopefully Bolerhack.

He's got a good voice for it, but man do I get sick of his constant - and by constant I mean never-ending - use of cliches and almost complete lack of actual insight into the game.

Harp has been a little of a disappointment now that we have him full time. He sounded better in his fill in role last year.
Not sure why people hate Boler so much. Besides being a dork the guy calls a good game imo.

I guess some of you are spoiled after having the best of all time...

I've grated on jazzfanzer's nerves in the past with my incessant bitching about Bolerhack. There is just something about him.... he reminds me of a lot of my dad's old college buddies who like to hear themselves talk more than they like to craft something actually insightful.

....damn, while I openly celebrated Hot Rod, I had no idea how much I'd taken him for granted.

Harp is a tool, plain and simple. I love how Bolerhack has lorded his "rookie" status over him ALL ****ING YEAR, while simultaneously, and in a paternalistic and patronizing fashion, cheering certain of Harp's witticisms. BARF.

IMO, the quality of live game broadcasts comes down to laziness: belly up and preserve those elements of the craft that were essential during the radio era but are still good as hell now. All you broadcasters are performing for christ's sake... be like McFly's punk/ska band and get AUTHENTIC!HARDCORE!TOTHEMAX!

I used to complain about Hot Rod. Then I thought it was endearing how even he lost track of what he was talking about - he sure seemed boozed up in those later years. Now he's gone and I realize how good I had it.

I can do without both Boler and Harp.

But before we all find common ground here let me set myself apart from the rest of you and proclaim my undying love for Steve Brown. I love it when Boler takes the night off and Brownie gets to substitute. He doesn't try to be all "announcer"-y with cliches aplenty and inane jokes about FRY SAUCE! He just calls the game and gets the hell out of there. He's so unobtrusive. He's almost invisible. I love it. ...ok, occasionally he TRIES - but he fails so miserably it makes me love him all the more. ...to Brownie.

I say this with sincerity: I believe you may be a true lone wolf.

I'd rather prop up Hot Rods dead rotting carcass, (ala. weekend at bernies) behind the mic with an occasional, "that's right, Hot Rod." from Ron Boone over hearing about ****ing M&Ms and Rookie of the Year announcers and Intellibed and how good you read your promos ANY DAY!

He isn't. I like Brown too. He doesn't try to be more than he is and calls the game well enough that you know what is going on while being unobtrusive about it. I much prefer him to Boler. Sure he makes some mistakes but they are genuine mistakes and forgivable, because he tries to get it right. Boler is just a faunt of shitflavored cliches and wrong terms that reeks more the more you listen to him. All so he can sound like he knows the game.

Someone teach him what a ****ing skip pass is for **** sake!

I don't have a big deal with Harpring or Bolerjack. I mute most every announcer because I know the game more than the people they are announcing to.

What I don't like is the blatant, or better put, blind homerism that announcers portray. Bolerjack is falling more and more into this, and I think it's been because of Harpring's enthusiasm and fan support he gives the Jazz. "Hit, no call" bugs the hell out of me, as do the assumptions that the refs missed a foul call on the Jazz.

I don't think the broadcast team does enough to accentuate Harpring's intimate knowledge of the Jazz offense. I've never seem him asked to diagram a play coming out of a timeout, or describing with the telestrator where the missed defensive assignment occurs.

I tuned into the end of the Knicks-Celtics game on NBATV, which used the Knicks home broadcast. Breen was announcing like he was an anti-fan of the Knicks, and I thought, where is the enthusiasm for your home broadcast? The local broadcast team should root for that team, but call it straight.

This (in bold) is one reason I liked Hot Rod. If the Jazz were stinking it up he had no problem calling them on it. If he thought they needed a time out or if a call went for the Jazz that shouldn't have, he said so. He just loved basketball, you could tell, and he knew the game very well. Drunk off his *** he knows more about basketball than Harp and Boler put together.

And I agree with your second point. I was excited about Harp being a broadcaster so he could give us some in-depth analysis into the way the Jazz play and what the team was doing. Instead we get M&M flavored fry-sauce.

Now that is weak sauce.

I really like Harpring when he came in last year during the playoffs. He was fantastic. This year I've enjoyed him and Boler. I think they are hilarious and do a good job. I'm really sick of how many advertisements they do though... its getting out of hand.

For those of you complaining about our announcers, it could be worse...

It could be better... a lot better. Hot Rod was fun to listen to. He was a fan who shared insight, frustration and joy. He'd get so enthusiast when they played well, "John Stockton at his everlovin' best" and so annoyed when they played poorly, "Four seconds and seven tenths of another second to go. (He was incapable of comprehending the tenths of a second thing.) Let's see if the Jazz can finally figure out how to inbound a basketball." Maybe they could hire Tony Parks to do Jazz broadcasts using his Hot Rod imitation. I definitely agree with those who prefer Steve Brown.

These current broadcasters just feel like dorks paid to spout the company line. Their job is to feed bubblegum to the audience no matter what's happening on court. The downgrade after losing Hot Rod (and the decision to move him from simulcast to radio only) was the worst Jazz personnel change in their history. Worse than the loss of Stockton, Malone, Sloan, Williams or LHM. Imagine how entertaining it would have been to hear Hots call this last season.

I liked Boler mostly. Until they paired Harpring with him full time. Now Harpring takes the conversation completely off course, and interrupts him and takes about a bunch of crap nobody cares about. And Boler seems powerless to ignore him and talk about the game.

I liked Harpring last year in an occasional role. Now I want him to go away.

Everyone who wanted Harpring as a replacement for Boone only felt that way because he wasn't anywhere near the caliber of goober that he is when he was with Boone. That, and for some reason people had this false impression that Harpring would provide more insight to the game because he was on the team.

Just imagine if we had Channing 'Frye Sauce' on our team...
