You might if you didn't like your job and wanted to get fired.????? If Utah had the #8 pick, and you were the GM, would you take 2 seconds to drop to #12?

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has acquired guard/forward Mike Miller and guard Randy Foye from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila, Oleksiy Pecherov and the fifth overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Don't forget teams make trades like this on draft day sometimes:
The 5th pick was Rubio. Plus, Curry, Teague, DeRozan, Jennings, Holiday, etc. were all still on the board. I would never trade Rubio for Miller and Foye, but the Wizards and Wolves did in 2009.
I'm assuming that the Jazz will tag some protections to the 2016 pick, while the GSW pick is unprotected. A pick can't be protected twice. It's subject to the protection that the original team put on it. If the Jazz trade that pick and Curry gets hurt. . . another team will gain that reward. That's why I still place a higher value on it than on the Jazz 2016 pick, and why Id be reluctant to trade it. Logic tells me that the Warriors will still be really good two years from now, but I don't like to ever trade away an unprotected pick.I pretty much agree with you, but would swap our 2016 pick and the GSW pick in value..
I've been reading some of the Pistons board on RealGM and they seem to okay trading 8th for Hood and the 12th pick. It's a good deal right? Hezonja, Portz or Johnson will all be there for the taking.
Not a chance. Hood is a sure-fire 40%+ 3PT shooter. He just might be a starter. Plus we'd get a pretty decent player at #12. You'd trade that for a complete crapshoot? I'd much rather have Hood and Dekker (or Kaminsky).
Don't think Porzs is there. I am not sure I'd trade Hood for the 8 straight up. His last month was great. He can create good shots for himself and others. I think he might be our second best wing... and I like Burks.
I'm also not sold on Mario. Justise is good but that 3 point shot might be fools gold.
Why? If anything, I think the minutes will diminish for Elijah and Slo-Mo, not Hood. I do see the love for Porzingis, though. Agree with HH that he's likely gone before #8.If Portz is there, I think the Jazz will make that trade. He is considered a top 5 pick and yes, he isn't quite ready (so was Gobert). But if given time, he will be quite good. As for Hood, he's role and production will diminish with Burks coming back. That's just me though.
I looks like a good, fair deal for both sides. I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's a good use of our assets and gives the team a chance to get a really big upside player instead of hoping one falls to 12. I'd be on board with that. How about this one:
Detroit trades: #8+ Brandon Jennings
Utah trades: #12+Trey Burke+OKC 2018+non-guaranteed contracts
Detroit just signed with Arn Tellem to be one of their chief executives and that would likely rise their profile as a free agents destination so they'd need any free cap space they can get. They got Reggie Jackson and SVG seems to love him and will resign him. That leaves no place for Jennings who is returning from a horrible injury and has only 1 year on his deal, which makes his contract at best a neutral value. They also add the local hero Burke to their team and they have 2 cheap years of his services as a back up, while figuring out if he will work out long-term or not. They also add a future pick for their trouble.
For the Jazz - we move up to #8 and we get our final piece(Hezonja, Porzingis, Johnson - whoever is left/our management wants). We get a backup/relief valve for Exum at the PG spot for 1 year, while not hindering us long term with the unknowns of his injury situation.
Thoughts?
