Have to admit after having watched Jazz basketball all the way back to the beginning of the Stockton/Malone days, it's weird to see the 3-pt shot as a weapon instead of a last resort. Sloan grudgingly allowed Memo to shoot 3's (love the pick and pops with Deron), but that was about it. It was always pound the ball inside and only shoot a 3 if the clock is winding down. To some extent, I understood his philosophy: that was an era of physical play, the Jazz were just so damn good at the P&R and the 3 wasn't necessarily a high-percentage play. And it's hard to argue when Utah was consistently one of the best FG% teams in the NBA.
But now, in Quin's offense, we see a guard get into the paint, and instead of lofting up a shot, draw the defense and kick it outside for a 3. It's enough to make Sloan roll over in his grave! This definitely ain't your father's Jazz. It's an exciting brand of basketball and teams are going to getting very tired if they have to run Jazz players off the 3-pt line all game long. With the depth Utah has, I hope games turn into a tag-team situation. Starters get tired, you bring in fresh blood and they're not much of a dropoff (if at all) from the first unit.
Love Evans, but he just doesn't fit the new system. Hope he finds a better situation next year. Guys like Millsap, Evans, Carroll, Jefferson, etc. will ALWAYS be Jazz players to me. And I'll wish them well whenever they aren't playing against Utah.
