The Offseason Cha-cha-changes Thread

Atlanta is committed to Trae Young, who is arguably the worst guard defender in the league. I could see them reach for Gobert as an over-correction. I'm intrigued by Jalen Johnson too.
They might go over the top for Rudy especially if there is competition. He fits them so well.

I would want Collins and Huerter, but if we can't get Huerter, I would want Johnson, Capella, picks and the ability to shed Rudy Gay and save money elsewhere.

This is what Danny Ainge would do. He'll get someone to reach on Gobert the way he got the Nets to reach on KG and Paul Pierce. He'll keep Mitchell on the Jazz. Ainge just needs to find a team that's desperate.

Yep. Charlotte had a good season and couldn't even make it out of the play in. Atlanta had a massively disappointing season. Indiana might want to be aggressive.

Competition will be there, and Ainge needs to capitalize.

Knicks too.

Gobert is the guy who gets your team from 38 wins to 47 wins. Teams will make offers. Jazz are going to need to rebuild their defense though. We don't want to drop from 48 wins to 37 wins.

Most importantly, I think a system change is huge. We gotta change it up..

If we added two good starters for Rudy, I think that's the start.

Atlanta - Huerter and Collins
New York - Randle, Robinson, other stuff
Charlotte - Rozier, Washington and Plumlee
Indiana - Brogdon and Turner

Some of these deals include picks that have to be used correctly

You're right. Maybe we dump Quin and build a system that works better.

I think regardless, we lack the players to get over the top even if we do change the system.

So by the time the system looks like it could work, our age and Rudy's age leads to a decline.

With what we have built, I just don't see any reason to keep Rudy. Why?

He’s likely better than whatever player you could get back in a trade is why.

I think the Jazz should trade Gobert for Collins young Bogie and a pick.
We should try to combine any picks from a Gobert trade with bogie or Conley to try to get more young pieces.
Wonder if the Nets would trade Simmons for Conley and old Bogie? Could be gold or a waste but I’d love to see a big three of Don Collins and Simmons.

I wasn't talking about Don. That's another issue altogether. We tackle that depending on what we get for Rudy and other assets.

First and foremost, we trade Rudy. Then from there, we decide what we do depending on what we get back.

I think I just see the same logic you apply to Gobert applying to Mitchell. I could get behind a trade of Mitchell and I could get behind a trade of both guys. Trading just Gobert makes no sense to me. Even if Mitchell suddenly was willing to play the point we need a massive overhaul and there is still no evidence he could guard anyone.
He too smol of a sg, he just is.

I don't think so. The more I watched this series, the more it became obvious that our defensive system, that we take so much pride in, is completely flawed.

Opponents put us into a blender of sorts that always ends up with an open 3 point shooter. I used to think it was our poor perimeter defending, but it's our system. It's what we try to run.

Trading Don to build around Rudy will result in the same misery.

A paper bag would be a defensive upgrade from DM.
