the bulging speedos comment in another thread reminded of a debate I had with a friend, we never did settle it, so I'm putting the question here for you geniuses to contemplate...

Is it "tidy whities" or "tighty whities"?

well perhaps not visible from the outside - -

I had never given it much thought until a friend wanted to write it for some reason. Logically, it seemed "tighty" made more sense although that didn't seem like a real word (and spell-check/auto-correct doesn't want to accept it), and "tidy" makes sense in that they present a neat and tidy appearance rather than a sloppy appearance...
