What's new

The "real" reason Ray Rice only got 2 game suspension!

Michelle Beadle's take: "So I was just forced to watch this morning's First Take. A) I'll never feel clean again B) I'm now aware that I can provoke my own beating.

....I guess that might depend on how many "partners" you actually have? And yes, you can provoke your own beating.

"I'm thinking about wearing a miniskirt this weekend...I'd hate to think what I'd be asking for by doing so"

.....we can start with some gawking, some perving (staring with sexual intent), a lot of oggling, and whatever else happens depends on the company you keep!

"I was in an abusive relationship once. I'm aware that men & women can both be the abuser. To spread a message that we not 'provoke' is wrong."

.....well, then, if both men AND women can be the abuser, why not prevent/minimize the abuse by not "provoking?"

"Violence isn't the victim's issue. It's the abuser's. To insinuate otherwise is irresponsible and disgusting. Just walk away."

.....so we had two victims here......and......two abusers? Yep, I'm insinuating that!

And yet quality human beings like Al Jefferson are somehow able to restrain themselves.

Maybe AJ and Rice might just have different value sets? Either way it's safe to say Rice "upped the ante" when he knocked his woman out cold.
I had heard she kicked him in the nuts. Did big al have a woman kick him in the nuts?

If some weak 100 pound man assaulted me

if that weak *** 100 lb man kicked.my balls then i would be in some real danger.

A kick to my nuts will incapacitate me for a bit

....any man kicked square in the nads....is going down and I don't care what he might weigh! But when he get's up....he's gonna be pretty bent out of shape....and be looking to return the favor one way or another!

Jim Rome had his show almost entirely dedicated to this. It was amazing how many idiots called in defending Rice.

The dude is a 220 lbs monster. He probably benches and power cleans 300+ lbs easily. Not mention he's one of the quickest athletes in the world. There's absolutely no reason why he would need to use physical force on a woman. When that guy punches, it's not a regular punch.

I don't think people realize how ridiculously strong these nfl athletes are. Like... Moreso than any other sport. Even RG3, a quarterback, has a video out of him squatting well over 300 lbs like it's nothing.

I challenge anyone from anyone from the pansie lakers team to go to the gym tomorrow and try and do that.

Lakers suck.

Perhaps. When a person who is physically more dominant than another is in real danger I have no issues with them using that physical dominance to protect themselves.

I doubt Rice was in any real danger.

Squatting over 300 lbs isn't that impressive......

...I think we're losing focus here on this issue! No one is arguing that Rice used excessive force in restraining his girl friend from doing more bodily harm to him. What we are expressing is the REASON the NFL only suspended Rice for 2 games and not longer! Evidently, upon interviewing all parties involved along with experts on domestic violence and legal representation and previous court proceedings in similar cases....they reached the conclusion that 1) Rice needed to be punished. 2) Because of mitigating circumstances (he got kneed in the nads and was under further assault?), 2 games was determined to be sufficient for ALL parties involved! Now, had Goodell found out that Rice pummeled his girl friend just because she spilled his drink or burnt the toast....the punishment would certainly been much more severe, don't ya think?

I don't know. Who has been suspended for a larger number of games concerning domestic violence?

I just saw the picture of Rice's wife on espn....she looks or reminds me of the woman in "Barbershop" who was a real "slap you upside your head" if you cross me in anyway, shape or form! Could even be related? Guess Rice wasn't much interested in the more "feminine" type, rather one who could handle the "tougher" situations that sometimes arise in the city of Baltimore?

guess what women can do as the please. what they are saying is basically she can do anything physically to a man.
men have no right to self defense
hgahahahahahahahahahahaha

"The “First Take” host will be off the air until next Wednesday following his comments Friday about women’s responsibility not to “provoke” domestic violence, while discussing the NFL’s two-game suspension of Ray Rice. ESPN did not term Smith’s time off a suspension, but regardless, he won’t be heard from over the next week."

...well, there you have it! Suspended for defending his "manhood" parts?

Each of us are responsible for our own actions. The victims (man or woman) of domestic violence are not at fault. Idiotic argument and Smith should be ashamed.

I look forward to seeing how low your rep level can go.

....so, each of us are responsible for our own actions......which means Mrs. Rice got whatever happened to her without repercussions or penalties of any kind? And Rice, a victim/abuser got what was coming to him as well? Oh, by the way, this "rep" level thing is a joke. Who cares where they are or where they are going with the "rep" totals!

Nothing Mrs. Rice did deserved being knocked unconscious, nor was it necessary for Rice to do this.

...agreed, 100%! However, what happened was a direct result of 2 things: baiting and/or physical contact by his wife and secondly, a lack of self-control by Rice himself.

look i was not there.
dont know how bad she abused him.

but assuming it was bad, it learns her and us a valuable lessons. sometimes there are consequences to our actions. somethimes those consequences ar harsher than we deserve.

hope she learned her lesson.

gain dont know how bad she beat em. if she like only slapped him he should have walked away.
but sometimes walking away is not an option
