The Republican Party?

IMO, the Republican Party has, in effect, acted as an enemy of democracy in America. It truly is that simple, that fundamental. Knowing they needed to broaden their appeal to compete in an increasingly diverse America, they have opted instead to strip Democrat-leaning citizens of their right to the vote. And they're not fooling anyone, certainly not the judges who are throwing out their discriminatory voter ID laws....

Shame on the Republican operatives:

Wrong. Illegal aliens and people here on visas do not have a right to vote.

And what IF the police are to blame. Should Obama, or anyone else, avoid mentioning this? How do we make reforms if we cannot publicly acknowledge the problems?
Problems need to be acknowledged and dealt with but the president ought to gather the facts first. Unless it is systemic it might be best to deal with these sorts of situations internally. Anytime the president comments on a specific situation a huge spotlight is going to be shone on it. Why hasn't he chosen to use that power to comment on gang violence which is taking many more lives and hurting the quality of life for law-abiding black people much more than cops ever have or would? I think that by helping to promote the notion that cops are systemically bad he has created an environment where it is much harder for a good cop to protect the people who need it most.
