What's new

The single key to success this season...

The complete absence of Raja Bell and Mehmet Okur from the rotation. 0 minutes.

I'm not so much concerned with wins and losses this season as I am with the development of our key pieces and Corbin finding the right mix of players on the court at the same time and general rotation.

If Bell or Okur are indeed on the opening day roster and they get minutes of consequence, I will be leading the FIRE CORBIN bandwagon and starting threads that I demand be pinned to the top.

You had to start a new thread for this wast of space argument!

I believe Bell can be useful. Last year I said I thought the jazz were using Bell wrong, he is well past his prime and not capable of giving 100% effort for the 25-30 minutes he was getting last year. Play him for 5 mins. In first half and likewise in the second, tell him to be disruptive and hard core to the other teams best wing, and he may be able to disrupt the other teams flow.

Memo can and should be able to spread the floor giving room for Favors sap and Al.

Play him for 5 minutes in each half? Disruptive and hard core? Give me a ****ing break. He may be able to disrupt the other team's flow (even though I don't agree at all - he's proven he can't defend anyone in the league), but he'd most definitely disrupt any flow we had offensively.

As for Memo - we have Hayward, C.J. (suck on it C.J bashers), Burks (maybe?) to spread the floor. Perhaps we don't need our big man to be a fatass who likes to shoot threes.

Dude if you don't read slcdunk at least read this...

Raja played 51% of all the SG mins last season. He was amazing. If you’re looking at just the most simplest of metrics (+/- points) –he was a huge loser. When Raja was in the game and playing the 2, the Jazz net score from shooting guard was -218. There are only 82 games in a season so that means that BY HIMSELF Raja was getting worked to the point that his man was scoring +2.7 points more than him, every game.

Wait, let me pump the breaks a bit. That’s really unfair to say . . . you can’t blame Bell for that, and you can’t come out there and say he was getting worked every game he played, and on average letting his man get +2.7 extra points. Why? Because Bell didn’t even play in 82 games last year. Our "defensive stopper" only played in 68 games last season. So the real bloodletting of -218 net points over the season actually results in Raja getting worked for 3.2 more points a game than he would have if Raja was "average" for his position. (Btw, don’t even look up the number of games we lost by a FINAL margin of 7 or less; which means that our late game fouling would bump up a close game into a solid win for the other team.)

It’s not like we got Raja for his scoring though (which is fine because he didn’t shoot too poorly or too great last season), we got him for his defense. And in this case his defense bothered the other team’s SGs to shooting 51.2 fg% when he was out there. Wait a second . . . when he’s not out there and we have a better offensive option the other team only gets better by 0.1 fg% ? Why do we put Raja out there in the first place, so he can flop with Manu?

I hate Bell, but I could live with him playing 10 minutes a game as a backup, if he accepted it and was a positive influence on the youngins. Don't see that happening at all. Last year he bitched about not starting, and it looked to me like the coaching staff tried to make it up to him by giving him minutes in the 4th quarter. **** that. The last thing we need is a malcontent poisoning the well. I agree with Chitown on Bell. He needs to go.

As for Memo, I'd like to see Utah try and get some trade value out of him. We might have to give him some backup minutes for a while to do that.

Just want to add.

Hahaahhahaa. What? This thread hasn't even come close to describing the keys for the season. More like, 'personal agendas' for this upcoming year.

I home to see Bell never play another minute for the Jazz.

Memo on the other hand I'm still a huge fan of and if hes healthy I want him to get some minutes. He could be a huge asset hitting 3's and spreading the floor for favors or big Al.

KEY to success? Starting the engine of a new car from one of Greg's auto dealerships. With 1/4 of the season lost, Miller will need extra revenue to assure he has enough $ to feed his family and still field a competitive team. So c'mon and do your part everyone, buy a car from the Millers!

The condensed schedule will lead to even less defense this year - Memo plays and contributes.

Don't get me started on Bell. Memo is someone I'd like to see get minutes. He might be done. But if he can still play in a reduced role, he can be useful.

Teams will likely need 13 players playing at least a small chunk of minutes over the season to help offset the denser schedule. There may be games where he'll need to play 20+ minutes. Should be few and far between, though.

Maybe you couldn't comprehend my original post, but I made it pretty clear that this season isn't about winning per se. We're going to be really young with no proven superstar. Thus, their development is the only thing that's important. Two old codgers who got in the way last year needn't be a part of this team again.
