What's new

the situation in Egypt

Look, TIS, all I'm saying is that there is a history of CIA/MI-6/World Bank/IMF/UN roles in these things. You don't need to believe in Elites - The Bilderberg Group, The Illumanatti, or what have you. Those other five are well known organizations and their interventionist history is well documented. I just think it's wrong to not include them in your analysis of possible scenarios. The battles on the street are real. People losing lives are real. The hunger is real. I'm just not sure the end result is going to be worth the fighting.

My personal opinion is that they are trying to install somebody in Egypt that is more trigger happy. Muburak is bad, but he doesn't follow outside orders all that well. Iran is still the focus of all Middle Eastern global policy. The catch is, that the US and Isreal don't want to really fight that war but they would be happy to jump in if somebody else would start it.

But hey, I'm just some idiot behind a computer that has no control over anything. I suspect that's why I'm cynical when it comes to world geopolitical events. I very much am in spirit with the Egyptian people though. Let's hope that spirit prevails.

I can agree with this...Disaster Capitalism as they say.

The sad thing is the Muburak supporters actually might be on the right side of the fight. Fighting for the lesser of two evils. This UN guy that shows up out of nowhere as the other side's leader is going to be worse than Muburak if he eventually works his way in.

It would be like people fighting for George Bush to get three terms in early '08 because they fear Obama's "change", and then he ends up just being a worse version of Bush.

Politics are a complete sham nearly everywhere. And certainly anywhere there is a significant population.

PICS or it did not happen.

ooh wait americanms and french have the right to get a revolution for the better. for democracy.

but the egyptians cant.

People are upset with their economy. I get tired of the right wing proclaiming that Egypt is fighting for freedom and liberty. Never do people fight for "freedom." There's always an economic advantage that they're fighting for. Yes, even in 1776 this was the case. Taxes and Britain dictating to whom we could trade with was what inspired that revolution.

Peoples will accept and live under horrible oppressive leaders (Hitler) if they improve their economic situations. Freedom of speech, religion, etc don't mean crap when you're struggling to make ends meet or feel like you should be earning (more).

In Egypt, lets keep in mind that the cure is often times worse than the disease in these situations.

The aftermath of overthrowing Mubarak is going to be scary. And if we, as Americans, think that Iran and co isn't going to try to have influence on Egypt's political future then we're dumber than I thought. This could very well end up being costly for the US, could mean more oppression for the Egyptians, and lead to a more dangerous situation for Israel.

There is no need to split hairs. What you describe is the desire for freedom from economic tyranny.

If the right wing is proclaiming that, what is the left wing proclaiming?

I found this an amusing commentary on the comparison between the Tea Party and the Egyptian "protesters."

It just looks like a bunch of young Muslim male rioters to me. They are probably just upset about the ban on female genital mutilations.

Economic freedom is preached by both parties, to a certain degree.

I just find it funny when right wingers talk about freedom (while moving Haliburton to "liberate" Iraq).

The right wing media make it sound like we primarily fight for speech, religion, and human rights. Rarely is that the case... And when we do, the right wing is typically against it. Great examples? Slavery, civil rights movement, and today abortion and homosexuality.

I have no idea what right wing media you are talking about, but the rest of it you sound pretty clueless about.
80% of Republicans supported the civil rights act, compared to 63% of Democrats
Lincoln was a Republican. The KKK was formed to be the terrorist wing of the Democrat party, whose purpose was to prevent freed slaves from voting for Republicans.
The Democrats revered (called him the "conscience of the Senate") and voted for a KKK member up until the day he died...not in the 60's...but just last year in 2010
Republicans support the rights of the most innocent members in society...babies.

And best of all the right wing is Chuck Norris Approved.

Yeah, did you know that over 80% of Egyptian women had a ****oridectomy...this happens when to them when they are little girls with no pain killers. It is a sickening "cultural" practice.

Celebrate cultural diversity you damn hate monger.
