The USA is a police state

Let's go back 13 years... The year is 2000, all the Y2K hubbub has just ended...

If someone told you that in 13 years it would be legal to tap Americans' phones without a warrant, arrest and detain American citizens indefinitely without ever charging them with a crime (and without a warrant), take a history of all your calls, your text messages (even deleted ones), and even every place you have been with time stamps, from your phone, without a warrant, you'd have said they were crazy.

If they told you that all of that would be happening, and the government was also chipping away at the second amendment, practically admitting that politicians are for sale to the highest bidder as they openly tank the nation's good standing and economy in order to satisfy a few billionaires, and that the internet would be monitored and censored, you'd think they were totally nuts.

So just imagine if they told you all of that stuff was true, plus the government would be sending flying robots to execute American citizens with no warning, no warrant, and not even charging them with a crime.

Wow, all in less than 13 years.

So 9/11 caused the destruction of America? I guess Bin Laden won.

In a sense he did. Go look at all the changes in laws, regulations and what not that are said to be because of 9/11.

Air Travel
Drone usage
Advanced Interrogation
Patriot Act
Security in and around any and all federal offices

He didn't win in the way he probably thought he would, but yeah. He caused a crisis that the government just couldn't let go to waste. They can't let any crisis to go waste. They take every opportunity to grab up more power and restrict more freedom.

Then again, maybe that's at least part of what Bin Laden was going for. In the name of defeating terrorists, the good old USA is giving them control. How's that for irony?

I said shortly after 9-11, while I was in the Navy, that Bin Laden will have won if we allow his actions to cause us to change our fundamental principles as a nation.

In short, Bin Laden won.

Open your eyes, man, that **** has been going on long before 2001. You just didn't know it because we weren't as connected as we are today. Look at what FDR did to the Japanese-Americans during WWII - that was the definition of being detained without charging them with a crime. It's easy to say America has dissolved into something resembling a futuristic dictatorship ... but that's hyperbole at its best. The fact you're even allowed to sign onto the internet and call America a police state without any repercussions just shows how free one is. You want a real police state? Move to North Korea and try to criticize their government on the web and then see what happens to you and your family. My guess is that you'd end up in some labor camp ... if you weren't killed outright.

So it's not a police state until it's worse than North Korea in every imaginable way?

lol at saying bin laden won. maybe he doesn't mind the discontent of some us citizens against their own government, but he far from "won" or getting what he wanted.

What did he want? I thought the official line was the main thing he wanted was the US to pull out of Saudi Arabia, which Bush did.

What would you do to put "the people" at ease and/or try to stop terror plots?

Kill the patriot act, kill the warrantless wiretaps, kill the warrantless phone searches, kill the indefinite detention of American citizens, kill the assassination of American citizens, basically restore due process.

While we're at it, make net neutrality a law, forget about the internet "kill switch," and stop censoring the internet in the name of copyright protection.

Oh yeah, and stop attacking the second amendment. It's mainly just a distraction to keep the people divided, and keep them from talking about the scary stuff that is really happening.

How does that help stop terror plots?
