What's new

The Utah Jazz will extend G/F Joe Ingles a qualifying offer...

They'll still have a MLE (even if over the LT).

The one thing about the CBA that I really think is unfair is teams over the cap get the full MLE to use. Teams under the cap have to use their cap room and then only have the room-MLE, IINM. I think every team should have the same MLE total to use. Why shouldn't a team like Utah be able to replace a significant player they lose (like Kanter), bring themselves near the cap and then still be able to add another decent player at the full-MLE value. It creates an uneven playing field. The top teams can add talent at that level; Utah can't...until they find a way to exceed the cap.

At least that's the way I understand it. I always defer to your knowledge of the CBA, GVC.

Actually, the Jazz had an opportunity to do exact that, but chose to buyout Perkins. Had they kept him for the remainder of the season and left his contract expire, his cap hold would have put the Jazz at or near the cap line. If they'd have done that, then they could have began the offseason above the line, used the full MLE and then renounced his cap hold (since I'm not sure he gets signed anywhere) and used the opened up cap space to grab a more expensive free agent.

They chose to cut him, knowing that it would cause them to operate under the cap line when free agency comes up. There's a trade off. You either have space or exceptions, but not both.

Good. Love the guy. Glad he made the most of his limited opportunity. He's the guy that makes the whole team better around him. Perfect fit for the bench. Hope the rumors of him working to improve his body to mangle the rigors of NBA play are true. Think he's a guy who could play in some small ball lineups very well.

Awesome... in a young locker room he's a great influence, has loads of intangibles and brings leadership, attitude and a great team fit, hopefully its for at least three years minimum. Could it be Ingles the FO wanted to sort first and then look at other signings....If I remember right we only have about 12mil to work with right?

So:

Exum, Burke, Cotton, Neto, Hanlan = 5
Burks, Ingles, Millsap = 3
Hayward, Hood, = 2
Fav, Booker, Lyles = 3
Rudy, Pleiss = 2

Dunno who I forgot ... (Cooley, Chris Johnson?) ... but we're looking a little PG heavy.

Awaiting news of Burke trade.

I don't see them signing Neto unless Burke gets traded.
