I do like it. I’m completely biased though as I love this type of fantasy with magic and swords.

I have downloaded most of the books on audible but haven’t had the time to even start.

I was a little off-put by the first sight of Moiraine. Her demeanor being way too impersonal to the group… and her channeling way too overpowered compared to her escort or w/e. However as the show progresses you get the sense that it took her quite the time to access that limit. I had also come to understand her impersonal impression was due to to the tunnel vision of “the quest.” Latest episode had me excited for what other majestic magical mysteries they can create.

Their trip through the portal reminded me of the chase scene in LOTR, where we lose Gandalf the grey. (Aka mat) member of the party- sounds like he comes back - hopefully as Gandalf the white… you know to save the day. Pretty much set up the audience to lose faith in him

In the end all of these are just attempts to get on the LOTR bandwagon. These are all LOTR knockoffs.

I've been watching the Witcher season 2 and it's been just stellar. By comparison WOT kind of feels like an after school special.

I am enjoying WOT better as it progresses though. I thought this was the strongest episode of the series so far.

I did find it weird that the kid goes through a hallucination then walks up to her and says "welp, I'm the dragon" and she's like "cool, let's go". Felt rushed.

Wheel of Time's first book quite similar to Lotr. It's hard not to be influenced by such a book considering there hasn't been that much time between them. However, WOT quickly becomes its own unique thing starting with book 2.

I am surprised you like Witcher season 2. It's wildy inferior to the books. I am 6 episodes in but I hate it so far and I rarely hate on adaptations because things are different. So many botched plotlines, characters that don't make sense, manufactured action just to keep tension high.

May be it's because I had high hopes after Ep 1. That was brilliant. Also Henry Cavill is just perfect as Geralt. He is carrying the show on his own.

From interviews with cast and crew it seems Cavill is using all his muscles to drag the writers back to the source material

I never read the Witcher books either. But almost everyone I've seen complain about it wasn't because they didn't like the story or acting or whatever but because they didn't like how they were adapting the books. I guess this is a good case for not reading the books ahead.

From what I understand they are taking parts from the books and the video games for the Witcher. As a stand alone it's really very well done. Good mythology with rules and a history. Excellent lead. Even Ciri is getting better as an actor. I think the 2nd season grounded the characters pretty well. All in all well done imo.

Generally I think the Witcher was done better for people who hadn't read the books than WOT was so far.

I understand Cavill was a fan of the books and sought out the role. And he has had a hand in the development. I think he has producer credits too. I also think he's done a fantastic job being understated while still developing the personality of what could really be a bleak and frankly boring character on screen.

And as I re-read your post I have to say I disagree about the action. In the first season it felt a lot like "monster of the week" with no real plot or character development for fairly large stretches. Although they brought it together well at the end. The 2nd season I've felt that nearly everything is plot-driven and the motivations of the main groups are much more well-defined. I can't think of a battle or action scene that didn't make sense or didn't help drive the plot forward. And pretty much all the characters have seen change and growth in their way. Don't get me wrong, it's not high Cinema but for what it is, it is pretty well done.

I will second this. I totally get why you think that, especially if you haven’t read the books.
But yes, things are going to go on a completely different track than LOTR very soon.

It seems to me that this whole first season has been about world/universe building while trying to cover the main points from the first book. If the 2nd season is about the 2nd and 3rd books, it’s gonna get pretty cool in a hurry.

I am rarely bitter because things are different. Adaptations are tricky and tv is so different. I just felt Witcher leant more into the cool/shock factor instead of incorporating better worldbuilding and themes. Episode 1 of season 2 was so great with its execution. It was different from the books too but it still had the atmosphere. I think the series needs time to breath. What made ep1 brilliant was that it had its own pace. I felt it didn't hold up after that. Especially with witchers at Kaer Morhen. Compare Eskel or Vesemir to Nivellen. I felt they are lacking in comparison.

I don't think there are bad actors in the show. They all do a good job. I like how Yennefer is portrayed too.

I should really finish it before I talk more. I only heard positive things from non-readers and they all said it ties up well. May be I like to slow-paced fantasy where you can sink into and my expectations were in that direction with the books and all.

Sorry I wasn’t specific enough. I watched three minutes of the show and it was almost laughably bad. The production value felt so cheap. Like some bad 80’s ****.

I liked yennefers boobs in season 1. Haven’t watched any of season 2 yet. Have her boobs made any more appearances?
