Thinking ahead, our 3rd big...

Ok, in spurts & against other bench opponents both Kanter & Favors have shown glimpses of being starter. I'm now thinking ahead & brainstorming who they should target as our 3rd big...

Before I go on, I want to throw a CRAZY WATP:
UTA = Kevin Martin / Kendrick Perkins / Perry Jones / TOR's 1st (btw 9-12th pick)
OKC = Paul Millsap / Randy Foye / Marvin Williams / GSW & UTA's 1st
Why UTA = Still keeps us in the hunt this season, as we pick up future assets in Perry & TOR's 1st. The only killer drawback is Perkin's add'l 2 years of 19M salary (3rd big?)
Why OKC = Their biggest deficiency is their offense post game & Paul could solve that problem. Paul keeps them athletic & Foye scoring w/ Marvin's offsets KMart (deeper). Essentially their Harden trade nets them Millsap, Lamb, 3 mid-round picks, & losing Perkins' contract.

Projecting the FA market for PGs, Mo may be out best option as our future PG would be in this year's draft. This is why I think a trade w/ OKC works as trading "UP" with TOR's pick is a goal to snag that PG in the lottery vs mid-rounder.

So there you go, Perkins is my option as our 3rd big going into next season. Start Favors/Kanter & have Perk & a face-up/stretch 4 as our bigs!
This obviously means that we wont be bringing back Al, as he may cost 4/40M+ to resign.

Bigs other than Al, Paul, Perkins (in my order of preference)...
- Byron Mullens (CHA matches qualifying offer but he compliments Favors/Kanter's game)
- Elton Brand (perfect 3rd, as he's a vet who can mentor Enes/Favs, 3/21M)
- Chris Kaman (best all-around big, 3/24M)
- Carl Landry (has a player option of 4M, so I would thing 5-6M+)
- Andray Blatche (may seek another big contract, as he shown this season that indeed can play)
- David West ($$, starter 8M+)
- JJ Hickson (see West)
- Samuel Dalembert (rather have a more offense guy or atleast a scarier big, ie Perk)
- Jermaine O'Neal (may only sign w/ a championship contenter)
- Zaza Pachulia (meh)
- Cole Alrich (how many of us loved him in the draft?)

I know that this topic should be made for the Summer but I just want to throw out all the available bigs & project the plan of attack our front office has with it comes down to trading Al & Paul.

Personally I'd like our thrid big to be Millsap next year. Start Favors and Sap with Kanter as primary back up.

If we are shooting for the moon than I'd want Ibaka. Try scoring on Favors/Ibaka or Ibaka/Kanter. Never mind Favors/Kanter. Then go after a tru scoring SF.

Milsap >>>> any bench big we can get but is he willing? I'd actually be fine with Milsap starting with Favors next year.

Exactly. Even not starting Kanter is in line for 25 minutes or so a game as the primary back up at both C and PF.

If Sap can't be kept at 10 million a year I'm going to say none of the above. Let Marvin Williams have some time as a stretch PF he's opting in for sure.

Carl Landry is my choice, he has already accepted his role in the NBA of being a very effective 3rd big and temporary starter if injury, which Millsap has come to grasp with. We need players that are going to perform at their highest level because they know their role, also an example of DeMarre Carroll and Marvin Williams, DeMarre doesn't need plays called for him, he still gets his stats.

Carly Landry would really be a great option. Nice post!

I thought I posted this earlier, where did it go?

If I was the jazz GM, Carl Landry would be my first phone call on July 1st. 3 year 17 million, front loaded, I need to know now.

While I was making that call, I'd ask my boss (KOC) to call Sacramento as back-up plan #1 and offer everything but the Core Four, and willing to take back anything they want as long as Thompson was included.

Back-up plan #2 is call Tyler Zeller, Tiago Splitter, Peckovic from Minny.

I wouldn't mind this at all stoked. I've never been all for trading both. Losing two talented bigs would be hard to make up for.
We still need depth. I just can't stand Big Al and Sap together. Keep the one that wants to be here, and have Kanter play major minutes as
a back up next year. What if it's Al that stays Stoked? Will you be furious?

Not a big fan of Kevin Martin at all. I know he is expiring but I'd rather try to keep Millsap. Swap out Millsap and Jefferson and make the contract match then you may have something.

Millsap-Favors-Kanter

They all complement one another well.

Millsap is a great model of hard work and regular improvement.

1. We don't KNOW how Kanter and Favors will perform when put in the grind.
2. We do know that Millsap is between good and very good in 85% of games in the grind.
3. Keep Millsap, bring Kanter along as a player off the bench getting a lot more minutes and opportunities (including opportunities to close games when he's rolling). Then, you have an easier time relegating Millsap to his most ideal role (hybrid forward, super sub) if Kanter starts to become a force consistently.

JJ Hickson

Add: Earl Clark, Gustavo Ayon, Lavoy Allen, Robin Lopez, Marcin Gortat

Clark - forgot but he seems like a tweener, I'm thinking of guys who can play C too.
Ayon - 1.5M Team Option
Allen - under contract
Lopez - 5M non-guaranteed (probably picked up)
Gortat - under contract

This is actually my first choice before Landry, because letting Kanter develop into that dominate player we all want him to be and we know what we are getting out of Millsap, but my only fear is the year after Paul will not be happy being the 6th man, which is why if we bring Landry in to tell him his first year he will starting the majority of the first year of his contract but to mentor the young bigs and he will still get major minutes and be our 6th man which he has accepted already in other teams.

I feel Paul Millsap will not produce like he would and have a bad attitude about coming off the bench in 2014-15 season, and I think for the production you get out of Millsap you can replace with Landry and have a well oiled machine come that 4th season for Kanter. Also another plus is I am pretty sure Landry would come at a cheaper price than Paul Millsap which is insane to me because I feel they are very similar players but Landry is a little taller and gets to the free throw line and has a good percentage there.

Honestly, I don't know if you guys have ever seen Tomic highlights, but he is godlike with the pick and roll. Very reminiscent of Splitter.

Burks, and Hayward would decimate teams with him coming off the bench. Yeah yeah, he's soft defensively. But honestly, I wouldnt mind seeing him come in as a 4th big for the time being, and see if he can one day play himself into a solid contract.
