I'm not opposed to him going to jail. But that should have been based on the original offense. Like Nate505 said, wife-abuse is ok, but a butt slap isn't?

Oh please. Even teens know that slapping your attourney's butt in court is completely inappropriate. If Chad is that ignorant of basic human behavior then he has no business being employed by anyone. He should go back to elementary school and learn the basics.

The message this sends is amazing. Apparently head butting your girlfriend doesn't deserve jail time, but you'd better not do something minor like playfully smack your attorney because then you do deserve jail time. It's extremely stupid, and the only reason it's happening is because the judge is a c-word who is a massive control freak.

I love what the judge did. I think it sends a great message.

Leniency for those that change, and death to those that don't learn a damn thing from there mistakes. Props to the judge for realizing her mistake and doing the right thing even though it might not be popular. In a matter of seconds the judge realized Chad wasn't taking things seriously, and needed more time to think about what he did and grow his *** up!

Sorry, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to go Colton on you!

I'm not impressed by a judge who was willing to let him off but lets something minor like that change her mind. Like him taking it seriously really makes a difference or not. If his crime is worthy of jail time that's what it should be, regardless of the emotions he is conveying to the outside world. Again, we are dealing with a judge (and a DA) who believes that headbutting a woman isn't very serious, but god forbid you don't act like it's very serious.

Would you have approved if she accepted the plea deal but charged him with contempt of court and sent him to jail (probably for a lot less time)?
 
I just watched more than the GIF. My opinion has changed. Chad wasn't joking around. The slap itself wasn't done in a jovial way. The judge first asked him what he thought of his attorney, he said his attorney was awesome. She said that's right, he's an excellent attorney, chad said "I know" and turned and gently mimicked a butt slap more than actually giving his attorney a butt slap. He had a serious expression the whole time, he never really looked at the audience or played it up for laughs at all. Had the judge not decided to go off on a tangent about how great his attorney was it never would have happened. And if people could have held their giggles it never would have happened. Chad wasn't laughing, smiling or joking at any point.

It would have been an extremely weak contempt charge, but at least that would have made more sense.
