But I think Koufos could've been the perfect compliment to Jefferson.

Koufos has height, speed, and proven ability to play good defense* that Jefferson doesn't have and Jefferson has length and power that Koufos doesn't have, so they would compliment each other well on D.

I see Koufos as a player that could be a nice-man's Bill Laimbeer (guy who can shoot and play good D). Or later career 'Sheed on D (before last season), poor-man's Memo on offense. Or poor-man's Raef Lafrentz before he totally broke down.

If that were to be the case, Koufos could conceivably be a floor-spreader and defensive-minded player (similar to a Raja Bell but a big instead of a wing) that allow other players' weaknesses to be supplemented and are paramount to team-play on both sides of the court.

As we all know, Koufos didn't play well last year but I feel he had a very promising rookie season and he looked to just be jittery from no playing time in his second. *His defense in his rookie season was especially exciting to see. And he's been scouted as a good shooter his entire life before the NBA. I could see him get there if he had a chance to develop and get rid of the nerves.

My position on Koufos is likely to never be seen as I thought he was in a fragile position and the trade appears to be a prelude to being out of the NBA.

Anyway, so the offseason stretches forth. What great weather though, am I right?

Probably could get him back without giving up to much. He will be like their 6th 4/5 position player on the depth chart. Looked decent in summer league. If Fes doesnt come back who knows?

Don't disagree. I'm an AVID college basketball fan and follow recruiting 24/7. I watched Koufos in high school, college, and with the Jazz (limited obviously). I was disappointed when we gave him up (when it didn't seem to be a necessary/critical component of the 'trade') as I felt he was coming close to being a meaningful contributor. He has the tools to be a great backup.

Hey VoiceOfReason, Kosta Koufos is better than most (if not all) D-League scrubs and foreign league castaways available. He was a decent rebounder, which is one of the few legitimate virtues that can be said about Marcin Gortat also. And he practiced hard and seemed to be a decent guy off the court, which seems to be a heavily weighted factor in these here parts. And he had some promising moments in his first season until Sloan banished him to the bench for months on end for no apparent reason.

I'd say that he's in the neighborhood skillwise of Elson, and KK2 is 10 years younger. Unless they think they can easily get him back, I'd say that it was a bit premature to let him go, especially given that Utah knew that they would be deep in the LT and that Okur would be iffy. He wasn't making much, and he knows the system.

One thing is letting go a short-armed Araujo or a drug-in-the-butt-cheek-carrying Whaley, but like Fes, Kouf wasn't able to get much of a rhythm or experience averaging less than 5 minutes a game.

He was OK his rookie season because nobody had any idea who the **** he was. He was not terrible last season because of nerves, he was terrible because he's not an NBA player. He couldn't run the offense, couldn't guard anybody, couldn't shoot, and couldn't catch a pass, and he was just a flat out ******. He's terrible and I'm shocked at this thread.

...yeah, it is crazy...and here's why: Koufos is easily intimidated by hoppers...and the league is loaded with them! He's worthless against them on both offense and defense.
