Why do we have to keep talking about Corbin? Franklin is like a guy whose girl friend broke up with him and can't get over it. Well, damn it, time to move on. Corbin's in the past. I, for one, will not comment any longer about him or in any thread about him. Good luck in your future endeavors, Ty. Enjoy the millions you made as the Jazz coach and in your NBA career. GVC negged me for my comment about The Voice of Sanity's post ... lol ... because of a personal attack. Geez, I've had a lot worse than that over the years, especially when I was my previous incarnation and defending AK47, though I was not obsessed about it like Franklin is about Corbin, and I stopped defending AK long before he left the team. Just this Corbin obsession of Franklin drives me bananas. Can we please stop with the Corbin speculations. It's a waste of our time and energy.

I don't think Corbin did a "good job." I think he did about as good as 80-90% of coaches would have done under the circumstances. He had the lost year where Sloan retired midway through. You could argue that year he did a bad coaching job, but most rookie coaches would in that situation. In the last 3 years he did about as good as any coach would have done. His first full season they were a playoff team, his second year they were above .500, and last year they were terrible. Maybe a few great coaches could have greatly exceeded those marks, but only a few select coaches like Pop, Larry Brown, etc... Fans often have higher expectations for their team than what is actually realistic. Corbin never had a team capable of winning a playoff series. His one year of failure was 2012-2013. That team could have made the playoffs, but many years 43-39 is good enough to make the playoffs. That roster was hardly capable of 50+ wins. For all the love Millsap and Jefferson have gotten, their teams were the 7th and 8th seeds last year in the lowly east and of course lost in the first round. Corbin hardly bombed in his 3 years. A great coach could have possibly won a few more games, but those teams easily could have lost a few more too. Nobody expected much from those Jazz teams outside a few homers in Utah.

The truth about the Jazz, is the Jazz do not have great players. There is not one guy on the team outside of maybe Exum that has potential to be a real superstar in this league, and Exum is extremely raw. I don't think Corbin was a great coach by any means, but I don't think Snyder is either. He will go as far as his players will take him similar to every other nba coaches with a few exceptions. I don't care that Corbin was replaced, but I wouldn't care if Snyder was replaced soon either. He should be the coach for a few years, but until the Jazz get better players it won't matter. The rest of the league is not fearful of Hayward and Kanter, sorry.

Where I might not agree is that Corbin was not average in his ability to see the situation he was in for what it was. He tried to coach last year's Jazz like it was a potential playoff team. Trying to eek out wins and push whatever small advantages he had NOW instead of taking what was going to be a losing season no matter what and using it for his benefit, for the young players benefit, for the ownership's benefit and for the fans benefit and begin to build something for the future. He was so short sighted and myopic in the way he used the team it was beyond frustrating. He even said himself that he was put in a bad position. Fact is, if he was in the least bit creative and the least bit bold and not a scarred fool he would have actually been in a really fantastic position.

Of course, it takes a special kind of general to know when it's better to lose a battle in order to win the war then to put it all on the line to win a battle that will certainly cost you the war, and likely won't win you the battle either. Unfortunately Corbin was the latter kind.

Oh, but one thing that cannot be forgiven. Corbin did not prepare this team for short clock situations. Like at all. That's bad coaching. No two ways about it. You can teach junior high kids the right thing to do in short clock situations, and I'm sure most the players he was working with had been on teams that knew how to deal with short clocks, but somehow Corbin coached them out of any good habits they might have once known.

This is the voice of idiocy. Look at the difference in how the Jazz are playing. Yes, they made some bad turnovers and failed to defend the three, as the game progressed. It seemed they became a bit frazzled after they lost the lead. But they are playing so much better as a team than they did under Corbin. To make excuses for Corbin is being as blind as Franklin has been the last few years. So, the Jazz lose one game and now Snyder is no better than Corbin. Man, you are a total idiot.

We should give it more time, but I don't see a whole lot that says they are playing better than they did last year. Keep in mind it is literally one game.

How many dumb turnovers did we have? How different is that than last year?
How many wide wide wide open shots did we take that were bricks? How different is that than last year?

A new scheme can give you different looks, and different open shots but the players still have to hit the easy ones.

To me the first game of the season was no different than last year. Can that change as more games are played? Sure, and I really hope so.

The biggest change for me, and benchmark I will watch for is the ability to hit the majority of wide open shots.

The baseline is "Jazz will be this year's Suns if they have a good coach like Hornacek". That's been the vocal expectation for a year and a half now. It's been laughable but let's accept it that's where we are at as a fan base.

48 wins. That's the parameter.

Not for me. This will be a rough year. However, I believe that the Jazz finally have the coaches, staff, FO and players in place to grow and actively start building. We will see growth and struggle. This will be the year we should have had 3 years ago. No that is not all on Corbin.

haha. Don't get me wrong. I am loving it and am gonna be drinking the koolaid all year long. A bad year record wise wont slow me down. I am looking long term and so far I love what I see. I'm still driving the Jazz bandwagon. That will never change.

You kidding me? It was decided before despite what was said by DL and staff. He was not coming back and he knew it.
He didn't land another HC job right away, but he did land on another staff like most head coaches that move on do. Many take assistant roles then get another HC chance when something opens up. He's not out of coaching. That may have proven your point.

The couple of extra wins he snagged don't improve his resume at all.

Had he developed a defensive identity. Had he developed young talent. Had he been the kind of coach players believed in. Had he taught his team how to handle end of qtr, end of game situations. Any of it would have made him look better than he looks now.

But you don't see it and he didn't see it. He saw the traditional way to measure a good coach, Ws v.s Ls and figured he had to sacrifice everything else to make that ratio as good as it could be. And in the process he ended up looking like a moron. He didn't have to go out like that, but in the end that's just who he is.
