KOC said he wanted to trade into the top-5, but Cousins' name was not mentioned specifically. I think KOC really wanted Favors. No way was conservative Utah going to draft a guy like DMC with his baggage.
Didn't KOC also say something like we're never gonna win a Championship with boyscouts?????
We had a strong team at that time I don't think DMC's attitude would have been an issue. We obviously needed talented players, and it was clear DMC has wayyy more potential than Favors at the draft (if you can make peace with his 'baggage').

Well, Favors went 3rd and Cousins was taken 5th and, IIRC, most mocks had Favors going before Cousins, so many "experts" liked Favors more.
?? But the mocks would have taken into account DMC's 'baggage' though right???

Yes. And that's why I think KOC would have steered clear of DMC...if he were given a choice between Cousins and Favors.
I dunno... KOC is all about talent (didn't he sign Boozer????).
I bet he would have said "DeMarcus - I CAN accept your BAGGAGE".

KOC also drafted Hayward over George.
And while Boozer stole from a blind man, I think he was viewed as a hard-working blue-collar player who just needed to get out from LBJ's shadow. And compared to Kenyon Martin, who the Jazz were also talking to, Boozer seemed like Mother Teresa.

Here are KOC's 1st round picks,
1. DeShawn Stevenson
2. Raul Lopez
3. Curtis Borchardt
4. Aleksander Pavlovic
5. Kris Humphries and Kirk Snyder (just look at the players drafted after these two, as well as the trade put together so that we could re-acquire Greg Ostertag.
6. Deron Williams (not a bad choice @ #3 but could have had Chris Paul)
Where is KOC now?? Well he got promoted to from his GM position to Senior VP of basketball operations. How can he be our VP of basketball operations when he doesn't even understand how to build a winning team or allow that team to operate? If this keeps up we may witness the 2nd coming of Larry H. Miller before we witness the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. LHM has got to be turning in his grave due to KOC's decision making skills or lack-there of.
