To get the number one pick...

Contention? With this team and a #8 pick? I disagree. We had the best PG with Deron, and couldn't make it to the finals. You need to have the a player that is the best at his position plus supporting cast. There isn't a player on this team that could be the best at his position and the #8 pick probably won't be either.

Our team is CLOSE to contention, but we need that "best at his position" player. Someone that can take over any time and carry a team. We NEED that top 3 pick. I'd give up our pick, GS pick, Burks and Kanter to get the right guy. Maybe more. Because without the right guy, you are contending.

Basketball is a one man sport.

I guess you forgot something. How many championships did MJ win before Scottie Pippen? How many championships did Lebron win in Cleveland? ZERO.

The Spurs the last four years would disagree with you.

I'm the opposite.

Westbrook relies on his athleticism and now that is in question - I wouldn't touch him.

Love on the other hand is legit offensively. Pair him with a defensive Center and a proper PG and I think you're a contender right off the bat.

To me, based off Love leading his team into, and then deep into the playoffs, I don't want him. If I am going to pay someone max dollars, he had better be able to get me to the playoffs every year.

That's fine. Give me the #1 pick, and the rule that I can't spend more than 5 million on any other player for one year, and I'll win a title before a team of Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors and Kanter will.

Huh, the Spurs with the #1 overall pick in Tim Ducan?

This Jazz team is not winning a title anytime soon and won't unless they get a great player. To think otherwise isn't reality.

Yeah Timmy has been out of his prime for half a decade now. The point was they play team ball with out one "go to" guy.

To say it is a one man sport isn't any closer to reality. That elite player (see Kobe, Jordan, Shaq, Hakeem, Magic, Duncan, Lebron...) needs a good team as much as a good team needs that elite player.

I think people are overstating the importance of getting #1 in this draft. There's not a Lebron James generational player in it. Lots of great players with All-Star potential, but not a slam dunk stud regardless of the love for Wiggins, Parker, Embiid.
Thank you. This draft is being so overhyped. I'm frankly a little sick of it. I would not give up that much to move up in this draft.

Tell that to Indiana and San Antonio. Both of them are contenders and I don't think either of them have a guy on their roster considered best at their position. Duncan was at one time but no more.

You could argue that Paul George is the best SF in basketball (assuming you don't consider Durant a SF) even though the position they play is meaningless. Lebron can essentially play four positions while Durant and George could play PF, SF or SG in a pinch.

One thing's for sure: having a dominant big man doesn't carry the same weight that it used to be. A top-flight swingman seems to be the flavor of the week.

.

Durant and lebron are both small forwards. And melo is too though its debateable if he is better than george (i think he is)

Argh. No duh. The only way we get that elite player is through the draft. It is easier to get the good team than the elite player. You give me an elite player. That is step #1. So, again, give me the #1 pick next year, and I'll give you any combination of Burke, Burks, Hayward, Kanter and Favors.

I'll take an elite player or any/all of those players.

Well there are only 5 best at their position players...just sayn

Yup. And who has been in the finals the last five years?

Miami (LeBron), SA (Duncan), OKC (Durrant), Dallas (Dirk), LA (Kobe), Boston (Garnett, Pierce, Allen), Orlando (Howard).

So, here is your team the last five:

PG: Parker, Rondo
SG: Kobe, Ray Allen
SF: Dirk, Durrant, Pierce
PF: LeBron
C: Howard, Gasol

Huh. You need arguably the best player at his position somewhere, unless you are Boston and have three HOF'ers and arguably the best PG in the...oh, wait.
