What's new

To the AK haters

I am thinking more like 5-7, if that. He knows how much he contributes, and at this point in his career I don't think he is too concerned with the money. And even at 5-7 I am not sure I would sign him, I am more comfortable at 3. Of course, you might be right, who knows......

All good players will be concerned with one of two things. Money, or Championships. It's either give him a 7-10 contract(which would be competitive, I would imagine), or get him in the hunt for a ring at cheap. Where do you think we stand in that?

I want him back. I'll say it, and I won't apologize for it. We ARE a better team with him than without him. But we may be paddling up stream.

4.) You can't get anyone comparable to him with a mid-level exception
Even at this stage he is not a MLE player as LogGrad98 already pointed out. He is also one of the last guys I want our rookies to look up to--peak after 5-years once you land a max-contract and become only a ghost of his potential. I hope we never go through that again.

I enjoy and appreciate that AK as a very unique skillset, and its rare for guys to be content in Utah. He is very exciting and extremely valuable at times, but in between those performances is what puts a bad taste in your mouth. Not expecting to see him in a Jazz uni this year.

I was an AK fan for years. I don't want him back. I don't think he helps enough and is not the future of this team. Losing this season is not the worst thing that can happen to this franchise. We need to discover what we have in the young guys and develop them. I don't expect to make the playoffs this year and I don't think AK makes enough of a diffence to push us over that hill. If Millsap and Bell are traded for a PG then I may change my mind. As long as he is not signed for more than 2 seasons. Anything more than 2 seasons at any contract amount and I don't want him back. If he gets 4 years for more than 6 Millions per then I'll be extremely annoyed.

Agreed.

We need to move on from AK. Yeah he is a consistent player but, injury prone and costs to much. If you want a playoff team yeah keep him although, if you want to be a contending team move on use the money somewhere else.

He will never be the AK of old we always hope for every year. Its time to move on like others have said.

This!

Why does AK put up great numbers in Europe and nothing similar in the NBA. Is it because he gets "shut out" of the offense. No. AK is a tweener. He's not strong enough to play PF in the NBA and his shooting and one-on-one defense is a liability at the 3. In Europe, he's able to play the big forward because there aren't the plethora of 6'10" big and strong PF's. Sure you have a few tall guys, but most are finesse-type forwards. Europe does not have the same physical play as the NBA.

When the Jazz did not have a decent PF, AK was "The Man" and averaged around 16/8 for 3 years. And how many playoff appearances did he lead us to in his best seasons? That's right, ZERO! AK, partly due to age and partly due to injuries, has lost some of his quickness and a lot of his leaping ability. Have the Jazz been better when he plays? Yes. Then again, CJ, Brewer, and a hobbled Harpring were the main options at SF besides AK. So I would certainly hope the Jazz have been better with AK in the lineup.

Jazz need to develop Hayward and Burks this season. CJ will also get the ususal 25 mins PT, to either see if he fits in the future plans, or to trade for a pick at the deadline. No to AK. The Jazz do not need him back at $5M+.

Listen, there is no one currently on the roster to develop at that position (Hayward is a 2), nor is there anyone to provide any depth if we don't bring AK back. We will get nowhere near the value for our dollar we would get with AK if we brought someone else in. Let's face it, we sign a FA, we're probably getting damaged goods that, if we're lucky, will provide a bandaid for a year or two at the most. Why not bring back a guy that knows the system, is super talented, and actually WANTS to be here?

There have been tons of reasons presented in the thread, feel free to read the other posts. But I ask, at what price do we bring him back? $3 mill? No-brainer, yes. $10 mill? No brainer, HELL NO! $4-$6 mill? Maybe. It is not cut and dried that he is what we need nor that he will be worth it.

Why do we want a player that will take PT away from a younger player?

Why do we want our young players to be around a bum?

I say, rebuild this team the way we want it rebuilt. Hard work, dedication, and toughness. Lets build a team that can compete in the next few years. AK doesn't help us with that.
