So I'm seeing that Skiles may be the new guy in Orlando and word is that Tobias and Skiles didn't work well together the first time around. I've also seen some twitter chatter/rumors that Orlando would like to keep him but may not match $13 M plus per year. This lead me to think that maybe he's a gettable RFA that would fit as the diverse combo forward we need. If they draft a SF or a PF they have a bit of a log jam that they need to address.

We can overspend on a guy this year because the cap is about to go bananas and we will struggle to get up to the salary floor the in 2016-2017.

Let's say we go $14ish M a year... Are you in? Would he fit? I have some reservations on fit myself, but really like him as a player. His best role would be off the bench for us and I think there would be plenty of minutes, but I don't think he'd like that.

He was rumored to want to go to NY, but not sure on the Carmelo fit there...

Don't think he'd come here to play off the bench, unless we played him full time at SF which wouldn't be great defensively, or spacing wise. He's a capable shooter, but seems like he does most of his work closer to the basket. Kind of a tweener.

I could see that as an issue for sure. We might be able to start him at small forward and mess around with some substitution patterns to get him minutes at the 4. I'm of the opinion add the talented player and figure it out but I'm not sure the player would be. I think not having a good shot to start might be something that would kill his interest, but if there were no other teams offering that much he might take the deal.

I also think he's a combo forward and not a tweener per se. I can see his skill set being effective at both positions depending on match ups.

Thx for your thoughts.

Interesting option if he really is 'available'. He can spread the floor and can score in the clutch. I think our offense gets better with him. I would like to see a year with Coach Quin medicine man. $14mm would be a fine price for Tobias. I bet other teams will offer more. He is in his 4th year and is an All Star in the making. Not sure about his defense.

From what I can tell his defense sucks the poopy... But he shares the floor with vucevic which prolly doesn't help him much.

He might get a max offer... I need to look again at who has cap space. Of the good restricted free agents I think he's the most likely to leave his team.

I would like to say I watched all of 2 or 3 magic games this year so I'm not completely certain on this guy.

Trade Burks. Move Hayward to the 2. Play Harris at the SF position. I love Burks and would hate to see him go, but Tobias Harris is a far superior player. I would be very happy to see him in a Jazz uniform.

negged.

You and the rest of us are just about to see a healthy burks with a good coach and good teammates with some years and minutes under his belt make a huge leap next season and you want to trade him?
Pump your brakes bruh

(just kidding about the neg btw. you know I like ya)

I wouldn't trade Burks right now... I like him and think he'd have way more trade value next year if he stays healthy. Let's not turn this thread into the Burks Believers vs. the Burks Doubters.

Wait, I thought we were paying Jeremy Evans.

Everyone wondered why Milwaukee would trade such an up and coming star for basically nothing. Then Harris starts talking about plans to play in NY in the middle of last season.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he is not Jazz material.

From what I saw the last couple of years, Harris was Orlando's best player. Not a great athlete, but he knows how to play and score the ball.

That might not be saying much. What was their record the last couple of years?

They sucked and sucked hard. They are the weirdest team to me. The parts don't seem to compliment or fit well, but I think they have some good parts. We might be able to do a sign and trade and send them Burke, plus the OKC pick, plus maybe a euro prospect or two and entice them to not match... they'd also get a huge trade exception. We could do it without matching salaries as we'd be under the cap (for those of you that are going to quibble on cba stuff).

I also had this opinion for awhile, but people let me see that the best option is probably to just let our young guys grow. We will have to pay them in a few years and we will definitely need the extra cap space.

This might be true... the 4th year on that type of deal might put us in a bit of a spot salary wise. I wonder if we did a 4 year max but made the 4th year a team option. The cap is headed to $105 M in 2 years. I think we'll be okay and next year everyone has max cap space so I don't see us being able to use our money in either getting good free agents or in taking on salary dumps or overpriced players.

Jazz still need to chase stars. They have an evaluation process that they trust, so if they project a guy to move into that range. . . they should go after them regardless of the cost. Outside of that, I don't think they should risk investing too much in any one player, because at some point they're going to want to cash in their assets to go after that star player and take a jump up into contending status.

They don't want to overpay for a guy like Harris and have it cost them Favors or Hayward down the road. Any moves made should be done with an eye towards what this team will look like three years from now.

Jazz realistically can't offer $13M to Harris.

Good player, though.
I thought that they had $12 million to work with before factoring non-guaranteed contracts into the mix. I might be wrong, but can't they cut/trade some of those contracts and trade Burke to get close to that range. They're on the hook for the 12th pick, but outside of Booker, Millsap and Ingles (who they should keep) they've given themselves a little bit of flexibility.

If we don't pick up Booker's option I think we can... I think we have 11ish M available and 15ish available if we didn't pick up the option. We could also dump Burke and his salary or include him in a sign and trade. I think we can get there pretty easily but may be wrong.
