Tweener? Isn't the old term for what is now called the "Play making pf" that is all the rage?
 
"Playmaking PF" is short for "I wish we had a PF as good as Tim Duncan; maybe I'll give this shorter guy a try cuz he seems good"

Well, I don't know. Tweener for me has a more negative connotation and has more to do with defense... it implies that the player has no real position in the league defensively... they are too slow to defend 3s and too weak/small to defend 4s.
Playmaking PF is offensive description.

I brought it up and as I looked closer I was less excited about it. We could do worse with our cap dollars though (David Lee salary dump idea)
 
I've always like Tobias Harris, I'm not sure how he'd fit in with the Jazz but I don't think it'd be terrible. He's got a good game and plays well at both the 3 and 4, allowing teams to go big or small to exploit matchups

No. It means that you can't play either position of question. Some morons think they're using the term to describe players that can play BOTH.
 
Bump a few years later... not to say I was right just how tweeners have morphed... some funny stuff just to show you how quickly things change.

I won’t claim a victory on this one... Tobias became a 40% 3pt shooter this year which changes things on him.

I, for one, think there is a starting spot totally up for grabs: the 2 or 3, opposite Hayward. Burks has an inside edge for the job, but that certainly shouldn't preclude from acquiring talent.

In the end, though, I agree with mellow: doesn't seem like jazz material. Also, I'm not at all confident that his play translates into a winning program. Hesitations abound.

I will gladly do it now... this is a victory for the anti cakk bakkkers too. This was the bakkkkkk cakkkkkkkkes offseason. There were some terrible contracts handed out the following year (and this year) but there were huge bargains.
 
Harris was such a raw prospect coming out, he was still 18 or just turned 19 when drafted. Orlando gave up on him in his 5th year, trading him for Brandon Jennings. Jazz of course are more patient and might have stuck with him had they drafted him...maybe.

Or, a tweener is a forward who isn't big enough to play in the post in the NBA and doesn't have the ball skills and shooting skills to play on the perimeter. See Thomas Robinson from Kansas.
 
I wouldn't have guessed that Harris becomes the player he is today even 18 months ago, props to OP on this one.
