What's new

tomic available... and apparently soft

Link? The only things I could find said he was just in discussions with them.

Not seeing that he has signed either. This includes the CSKA team website. If he does guess the question will be what kind of buyout does he have?

Just to reiterate, KOC said Tomic would have to "blow up over there" meaning he would have to start dominating Europe before the Jazz could bring him over. IF he ever comes over, he will be Scola's age.

yeah and i just think that's stupid. when you have the rights to a guy with those physical tools and raw abilities, why leave his development up to other people? especially since he could be had for relatively cheap. all that quote says to me is that the jazz never intended on bringing him over, which is foolish.

Maybe the quote means that "I'd be shocked to see him beat out any random second-round draft pick. Why should we bring him over since he'll surely be far more expensive than a second-rounder would be now?"

the fact that he was, at times, the best player in the ACB finals says you're wrong about that.

Because he isn't going to come over for the minimum. It has to better than any Euro offer he can get because he will get minutes and be a star on most Euro teams. He comes to America to get paid less, barely play, and not be a star? Doubtful.

it would take more than the minimum, but not by much.

besides, somebody who WANTS to come to the NBA (and by all accounts, tomic does) understands that they will have to take a pay cut to do so. see: scola, garbajosa, jc navarro, splitter....

i'm interested to see what CSKA offered him. i bet it's not a ridiculous amount.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. You could counter by saying that he was not clearly better than some of his teammates throughout the year, such as Kyle Singler and Jaycee Carroll.

What accounts?

He would get 0 playing time with the Jazz as of now.

If you know of information about his desire that I don't (which is entirely possible), please let me know where it's coming from. My impression (from some admittedly very vague sources) was that he's much more wishy-washy than many of the others in his desire to join the NBA.

The fact is he just got cut from a team so he must not be that great.

here are comments by RM's coach, press and teammates about tomic. the oldest one is two years old, some are as recent as three weeks before the RM front office declined the team option on his contract:

"he is mature, he is learning fast and we are happy to have brought him here."

"he is just what we needed and i hope we can help him get better."

"ante tomic is giving our frontcourt a lot of consistenc."

"real madrid's entire game came from the hands of tomic, nailed to the post to distribute and invent new shooting options for his teammates."

He'd have to take a pretty substantial pay cut. And at present, he'd be coming onto the team as the 5th big. I'm sure the Tomic question can and will be revisited if we trade Al or Sap, provided he doesn't already sign elsewhere.

Then they cut him because he was too good?

i don't know why they cut him, to be honest. a lot of spanish media has no idea why they cut him.

It has to be either a money issue or him not being good enough issue, or a mixture of the 2 (him not being good enough relative to his $$$).

Or he ****ed the boss's wife.
