Tomic offered buyout:

Maybe there is some team he would love to play for over here that isn't the Jazz and we could at least facilitate a sign and trade (if legal)?
Tomic knows Gobert and Favors will be getting the lion's share of minutes, he is not a moron, and may not like that situation even if its
better money here. After being a star for so long on Barcelona and Real Madrid, that would be quite a downgrade.
If I'm DL, my only goal at this point is to get an asset for him while you still can.
Lion's share of minutes, yes. But still not unreasonable. He certainly won't be a starter, but he's started 90% of his games in Spain and has only averaged 22 minutes per game over that 4 year span. I'm pretty sure he'll get adequate playing time. Kanter averaged 28 minutes per game, Booker averaged 19 minutes per game and the combination of Evans/Cooley averaged a combined 12 minutes per game after the trade deadline. I'm sure Quin will work it out. Playing behind Favors/Gobert gives him time to acclimate his game to the NBA and helps keep them fresh for the playoffs (when they qualify.)

If this is true, then that's great! He'd be a great backup for Rudy. So us drafting Kaminsky is out the door then, right? Having Tomic on the team is such a big plus! Like the dude's game and passing skills.

Doesn't say anything about Tomic accepting, but with this report it seems like the door is still open.

I hope so, cause I really don't care for Kaminsky. Tomic would be much better, and they could get a good wing for the bench instead. My pipe dream is Winslow, but would also like Johnson.

If Tomic entered teh NBA draft this year and was guaranteed to come over, what pick do you think he would be?
7?

Maybe, but potential trumps skill in the draft. There's 9 guys whose potential would be worth more to me than acquiring Tomic (and I'm a huge advocate of getting him.) Towns, Russell, Okafor, Winslow, Hezonja, Johnson, Mudiay, Porzingis and Turner.

If he were 8 years younger, with the body and skill he has now. . . top 5.

A better question would be, "If Ante Tomic were an NBA unrestricted free agent, able to sign with any team he wanted to, how much would he get, and would Utah be a realistic destination for him?

I think the answers would be 1.) more than it will cost the Jazz even with a buyout. And 2.) probably not. The Jazz have a chance to cash in on their investment, and I hope they do so.

I can see your point about DL getting an asset for him. But Tomic hasn't proved himself in the NBA yet. As Ellis mentioned, Tomic averaged 22 mins/per over his 4 years. And, IINM, Euro teams play fewer games. Hardly any player appears in all 82 games. Tomic can still average around 20-22 factoring in minor injuries to Favors and Gobert. Tell him if he's still unhappy but has shown he's a very good NBA talent, Utah will accommodate a trade. That would be much better than trying to find a trading partner now. I think the best we could get for him is a late first or a second rounder. I'd rather just play "hardball" by offering as much as $7-8M/per for 3 years. If he wants to play in the NBA, he'll take it. If not, that's his loss.

Sigh

This again?

He's our new Corey Magette/Lamar Odom

Every few months he's rumored to be coming over to play for us but never will.

jazz fans always find a few players to obsess about. It's clear the man doesn't want to come over. That's been clear for years now.
