That's barely $2.2 million dollars in U.S. The Jazz can EASILY afford to go above that to bring him over. Even if they'd kept Kanter and had to use the mid-level MLE of $3 million per year, they could afford to fit him in. $3 years - $10 million. More money than he can make in Europe by a lot AND if he's successful, he's in line for a big 2nd contract at the tender age of 31.
I was worried he'd be looking for a contract in the $4 million euros per year range. . . which might have been more tricky. Really, there's no reason not to bring him over. This is the quintessential "draft and stash" situation. Maximize the value of the asset used. A mid-to-late 2008 2nd round pick shouldn't potentially pay off like this.
