What's new

Tomic offered buyout:

I know it wasn't your idea, but that trade is horrible.

Yeah. That's a bad deal. I'd rather sign Jeremy Lin or give Burks some minutes at PG behind Exum.

The Jazz are still better picking someone in the draft and exploring other options in free agency or trades. Plenty of PGs got moved at the trade deadline last year. Better to keep Burke in that case IMO.

Fair enough. But the point still stands.

I think that if Tomic comes over the Jazz engage in a trade that includes the #12 and addresses the PG position.

Question is what vet PGs would y'all target for a mentoring/primary back up role and what would you be willing to use to get them?

Understatement of the year

Wow, that's a bargain

I would expect the jazz to pony up 6 million per
At the time of the extension, it didn't make sense. Until it was reported that the Jazz weren't permitted to offer a contract until July. A bird in the hand and all that. I'm not counting on it. He seems happy with where he's at, and that's hard to move away from. But there's still an opportunity depending on the combination of the buyout and the Jazz interest in him. If those two things match up, then I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think the Jazz are counting on anything, and as such are focused on the draft. Once free ages comes around, we'll have a better grasp of the situation. Utah has between $10-12 million available to use this year, and more than $20 million next year. If they want him, they have the resources to buy him out and pay him accordingly.

Don't know if its equivelent. I was reading another page about Euro being net salary. I think probably half the salary ends up going to taxes here, different for each state, but almost 40 % in federal taxes. Quick search shows that Utah has a 5 % flat rate.

If he has a net salary of 2.1. For Jazz to equal that with a 1.1 dollars per euro, and 45 % going to taxes, they would need 4.2 million. I think a 5 million dollar plus offer might be necessary to incentivise him to move over, probably 3 years, although I hope the jazz would have a 4th year option.

Take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt, as I have no idea if I'm right. Anyone with more knowledge than me, please chime in. I'm sure there are many other variables that I am missing.

I was joking. Europe does DD/MM/YYYY, so 02/06/2015 is 06/02/2015 so its from today. Caught me off guard for a sec at first though.

I hate Europe... I was like what the hell.

Still looks good to me.
Give him 3 years 18 million or 4 years 24 million.

I'm happy with that

I hope Dalamon doesnt read this. Hate to get that kid's hopes up to only be crushed again.

Portis > Tomic

I am brimming with delight. BRING US ANTE PLS GOD PLS

They're limited to the # of years after holding his rights for this long. The contract has to be for no more than 3 years with no early termination, team or player options. 3 years, $18 million still looks pretty good to me though. He's still be a RFA after that contract ends also.

3 yr 18 mill is about perfect IMO. Not too much of a commitment, but enough for him to be a part of a playoff-run if things end up clicking.

OMG. I want him on this team so goddamn bad. SO BAD. Gonna watch Ante-Gifs in that other thread now.

Hypothetically
Let's say no one had his rights and he entered the draft this year. Where do you guys think he would get picked?

I probably would have made the same mistake. I thought it was Tomic's wife who was pretty adamant about staying in Europe. Perhaps she's softened her stance and heard he can make more $ in the U.S. and living in Utah doesn't mean she has to be a sister wife.

Tomic >> Kaminsky, Turner or Pleiss so I hope the Jazz can use some of their cap space to bring him over. The only potential problem I see is if Rudy resents his backup making 4x as much. Guess the Jazz just need to tell Gobert he's going to get a HUGE contract in a couple of years but their hands are legally tied right now by the CBA.
