Tomic to the Jazz

How would Tomic compare to a Kaminsky coming out of the draft? I haven't seen anything but some highlight videos on Tomic, but feel I've got a pretty good grasp on Kaminsky and he's a guy I'd love to be our backup center/3rd big.

How's this assesment?
Shooting: Kaminsky by a fairly large margin, Tomic still a better shooter than our bigs though.
Ballhandling/Creating: Kaminsky by a small margin.
Passing: Tomic by a small margin, both better than the bigs we have.
Rebounding: Tomic by a very small margin.
Athleticism: About equal.
Defense: About equal for now, I'd say Kaminsky better on ball/perimeter and Tomic a bit better as a help defender.
With Kaminsky having a bit more room for development and Tomic having an experience edge.

It's not Kaminsky vs. Tomic, it's Kaminksy vs. Tomic and the person you can draft instead of Kaminsky

I would be so on board with trading the 10th-12th pick and Burke for a solid veteran but still youngish PG, and getting a solid SF in FA. That would be a dream off season for me.

Crazy to think the Jazz can add Tomic, a top 10 pick and Burks to this roster before they even get to signing a significant free agent. Regardless of what they do in free agency, that group alone will be a huge upgrade.

Drinking the kool-aid, baby!

But really I'm just looking for somebody who's seen Tomic a bit more to compare the two for me.

tomic is going to beast against NBA second team bigs. Looking forward to seeing tomic and Gobert on the floor at the same time.

Also Tomic is going to be a good mentor to Gobert.

Also... I see a lot of people saying he'd be our 4th big. He won't be our 4th big. He will probably be our 3d big(minutes wise).

I really really hope we make this happen. It will definitely raise the level of our rotation... and reportedly Quin absolutely loves him, so... that would probably work great.

With Tomic we'd have a backup to Gobert and won't need to slide Favors over to the 5. So really, the talk of 3rd or 4th big is immaterial. Booker backs up Favors; Tomic backs up Gobert. Who gets the most minutes depends on which of the starters gets in foul trouble.

I'm not counting on any "dream" trades or winning the lottery. I would like to get DMC in free agency, though. As for Trey, he could be dealt, but I just don't see a realistic option for a trade. As for free agent PG's, most are restricted and all those maneuvers at the deadline have those PG's with teams that want to keep them. Lin is about the only realistic option I could see. I'm betting Burke sticks another year.

Exum, Burke, Neto
Hayward, Burks, Millsap
Carroll, Hood, Ingles
Favors, Booker, Draft (Porzingis or Loony?)
Gobert, Tomic

That's 14 players. If a 2nd rounder surprises (and we'll look to trade at least one of those picks), maybe he makes the roster. Also think Motum is a dark horse to make the team. He's put up some decent numbers in Australia.

TBH, I won't be devastated if the Jazz swing and miss in free agency. Tomic and Burks are two pretty decent "acquisitions." And Hood has come on strong. Having Rodney play big minutes as the 3rd wing might be a good thing. I never viewed signing a FA and using that cap space as what would win or lose the Kanter trade. Besides, if we still had Kanter, Tomic would never consider coming over. So in that respect, it may turn out fantastic that we didn't drag this out until the summer with a qualifying offer.

Does anyone know if we have to fit Tomic's salary under the cap, or could we spend up to the cap and then sign him to a contract that would put us over the cap because we already own his rights?

Me either. Let's keep building this thing!

I don't think Neto comes next couple of years. I think they are saving his contract for whenever(if) Trey's contract is up and he wants more than we are willing to pay.

Doesn't he want to come over though? I thought it was a different situation from Tomic, but I could be wrong.

He signed a 3 year contract with Murcia last year, so unless we want to buy him out, he's going to be in Spain until 2017.

It's not just up to Neto if he comes or not... it's up to the Jazz if they want to sign him to a contract. That's my point. I don't think there is any incentive by the Jazz to bring him over this year or next year. We have a relatively cheap back up PG already.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks.
