Tony Jones No Longer Covers Utah Jazz

I am guessing Tony wanted to announce this himself if true. Locke may have outed him.

I know that Tony has been in Utah for a long time as a sports writer, so him not covering a Utah team is a really big deal. I'm assuming he will be moving? So, yeah, big life change for him.

It's just strange that Tony has been basically business as usual on Twitter?

It feels like Sarah would really rather cover any other team, even when we were good. It is almost like covering the Jazz was in the terms of her probation.

I’ve thought about this, and I see your point. But consider this perspective. A cancer researcher can be firmly on the team of curing cancer, an opponent of cancer, but still be objective when evaluating the efficacy of a new treatment. Counterpoint: We should not have family members as jurors when deciding if a family member is guilty of murder. I guess I will have to keep thinking about reporters.

Consider this my esteemed colleague of anonymous internet basketball conversations:
If you, as an avid fan of the Jazz of Utah, would be responsible for reporting said teams affairs and in the process of performing this most important duty would stumble into incriminating evidence that would be harmful to your target of affection... does that not present a significant conflict of interest? Similarly regarding your cancer research theorem, if the new treatment is produced by a company or a project that either benefits or harms said researcher monetarily, it would be hard to trust their opinion to be fully unbiased.

In a more general sense, reporting should be as unbiased as possible while fandom by definition is, and should be, strongly biased.

But we will miss Tony's coverage dearly! Hope he remains part of the community... I have a feeling he will still check in. He will want to maintain his Utah connects and he can't quit us.
