Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

Saw an interesting fan trade that may work draft day and made some sense.

Lakers ship Kuzma, Deng, and #25 to Utah for Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks
Denver ships #14 for #21, #25, and #52
Utah ships #21, Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks for Deng, Kuzma, and #14.

Lakers get cap space for their pending bonanza, Denver accrues some additional picks to build out their roster as they need, Utah gets Kuzma as their stretch 4 and #14 to grow along with Mitchell while eating Deng's contract for a few years. I like it myself.

Denver does not need more draft picks. Draft picks are the last thing they need to be honest. They have a roster full of young players already. Many of of them can't even get onto the floor (Beasley, Lydon, Hernangomez, for example) because there is youth in front of them already. Denver needs to consolidate some of the youth that they have into quality rotation/role players. Not add more youth to an already overcrowded bench.

The Lakers would be absolutely ignorant to stretch Deng right now. $8 million per year for 5 seasons is a massive number for wasted space. If LA stretches Deng, it would be next summer. Even, its almost $4 per year.

Right now the Jazz should offer Hezonja and harris this offseason and call it successfull

Hezonja 6'8"
Harris 6'6"

I agree, these are two of my top three free agent targets this summer, along with Bjelica. How much do you think it would cost to sign both of them?

Yes, they would be so stupid to do the thing that allows them to sign Lebron James and Paul George while keeping Kyle Kuzma.

The reason Lebron wont go to the Lakers is they are coached by Luke Walton. Lebron is thirsty for a real coach. Brett Brown or Mike Dantoni. Period.

They dont have to. They just have to waive the rights to Randle and extend/stretch Deng.

There is the idea that they could extend his contract with no more guaranteed money, then stretch him so that they’re only paying him ~ $3.3 million for the next 11 years. The problem with that is that it might very well be challenged by the NBA as circumnavigating the salary cap rules and voided - which would screw them hard. Think, CP3 non-trade to the Lakers, only harder.

If they really feel like they have a legitimate shot at LeBron AND PG13 in free agency, there’s a decent chance that their best move is shedding Deng’s contract by attaching a premium asset to it like they did with Mozgov. I highly doubt they have that shot. I think they’re going to chase one of those two this offseason (having plenty of space for one guy) and then try to trade for Kawhi Leonard once it becomes clear that he wants out at all costs.
