What's new

Touchdown!

Better late than never I suppose? The end of the world is scheduled for December. Quick! Evacuate to Uranus!

So our exploration into space taught us how to advance robotics? Please expound. And I'm still waiting for one other advancement that our space exploration has brought us.

The point of science is to improve learning and pass it on to further generations.

As people work at NASA, they gain invaluable experience of working in one of the most scientifically complex organization in the world. Eventually, they will disperse to teaching or other jobs parts where their bright minds can either teach others, or help develop things that we use on this planet. I'm sure there are many times that NASA has developed something that eventually gets rolled into some company's engineering or manufacturing, that greatly benefits technology that we use every day.

So, the whole point of doing something nobody has ever done is to learn new things. Those new things provide experience and knowledge, and that knowledge is passed on, or that technology is introduced in some other way. Over time, that's how a society learns how to do anything.

Just because you can't physically see a result doesn't mean there isn't one. It's not like former NASA employees quit and then go work at a gas station.

What good did exploration do Europeans? What was the effect of European exploration on indigenous populations that European explorers discovered? What is the typical long term effect of discovering other intelligent people as opposed to being discovered?

How will humans sustain our current population growth?

God will provide food and shelter to true believers.

What happens to humanity if all life on Earth is threatened?

God will protect us.

How does the universe work?

It is beyond our comprehension. Holy book would suffice for all the knowledge we need.

Is their other life in the universe?

Earth is the center of the universe and no intelligent life exist other than the earth.

How did life on Earth begin?

God said: "Be!"

Space exploration will make all of the difference. We need to do more in space, not less.

If it's God's wish.

For my exploration and science class we had a speaker who worked with rovers on mars, he said the following things.

Mars is actually pretty interesting, it has quite a few unique things about it. For example it has the largest mountain in our entire solar system. It also has the largest canyon at 3000 miles long (about as long as continental USA) and up to 7 miles deep (to compare the grand is 1 mile deep at max and as wide as Arizona about).

Mars is thought to contain as much water as earth but it is mostly underground trapped as ice.

It has an atmosphere, although it is only 2% of earth's.

It's surface land is about as much as earth since it doesn't have oceans.

All in all living on Mars is not that much worse then living on Antartica. Antartica isn't exactly a tropical rain forest but there are many different things that are able to live there.

The speaker also stated that there are many bacteria here on earth that not only can live on Mars but will thrive. If there is conclusive evidence of there being no life on Mars then there is a possibility that earth can populate it with organisms.

Wes, it is really simple. All that money has helped to create technology that helps us today. The best and most useful piece of technology being the space pen.

If it's God's wish.

OK, I'll play along.

God hasn't answered these questions for us in his good book. He created curious little monkeys who want to have the answers. If he isn't going to give us the answers we must assume it is up to us to find them ourselves.

I wouldn't mind if the Americans leave the Earth to the Turks.

But unfortunately, you guys won't be welcomed there, on the Mars.

Ah damn, the Japanese beat us to Mars!

You're so disrespectful to one of the most respectful/respectable nations, very shameful.

Actually they look like me. Short, skinny, big heads etc.

On a large scale show me when America has backed down over someones unwelcoming attitude. America has a huge "get the hell out of my way and F you to boot" attitude.

The Indians, Mexicans, Germans, japanese, italians, Vietnamese, Afghanistans...tried that and look what happened.

I was just trying to understand your point. I got what I want.

Sweet. I am not defneding the attitude, just acknowledging it. When America sees something it truly wants (land, resources, people...) they find a way to try and take it. Usually the sheer power of the response carries the day.
